Jakarta: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday called on state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to increase its investment in developing the rail network and providing a safe and efficient service for the people. He emphasized the importance of railways as an economical logistics system and their significant role in modern society, urging KAI to ensure service reaches smaller towns as well.
According to Nam News Network, Prabowo addressed these priorities during a ceremony marking the completion of the first phase of the restoration of the Dutch colonial-era Semarang Tawang Station in Central Java, which is now recognized as a cultural heritage site. Additionally, the event also coincided with the launch of KAI's new Nusantara Explorer service.
Prabowo highlighted that technology and infrastructure should ultimately serve the people. He outlined a broader vision for environmental improvement, setting a one-year target for the country to clean up all its rivers and waterways and tackle waste issues to enhance tourism.
The president further emphasized the need for greater environmental conservation, advocating for the planting of hundreds of millions of new trees if necessary.
