Sa kaeo: The extraordinary meeting of the Thai-Cambodian Regional Border Committee (RBC), held at the Officers' Club, 19th Military Circle in Sa Kaeo Province, faced significant delays due to late arrival and document confusion by the Cambodian delegation. Initially scheduled for 2:00 PM, the meeting did not commence until 1:15 AM the following day.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting was intended to follow up on the 13 agreements made during the general border committee meeting in Malaysia on August 7, with additional discussions planned. Major General Suravich Daengchan, Chief of Staff of the First Army Region, led the Thai team, while Lieutenant General So Kumpa, Deputy Commander of Military Region 5, headed the Cambodian delegation. Despite the scheduled time, Cambodian officials arrived much later, resulting in a prolonged wait for the meeting to begin.
Efforts to communicate through telephone and email were made around 7:00 PM, coordinated by the Cambodian side, but the physical meeting room remained empty until much later. At 8:50 PM, Major General Thanat Poonnayom of the 19th Military Circle announced that the meeting would still occur that night, although the exact time was uncertain.
It was not until 12:05 AM that Lieutenant General So Kumpa and his team arrived at the venue. They were welcomed by Major General Suravich Daengchan, and meticulous document reviews commenced. The Cambodian delegation had initially brought incorrect documents, necessitating over an hour of review before proceeding to the negotiation table.
The meeting finally began at 1:15 AM, but no official details or agreements have been released. The meeting is set to continue with a full RBC session today, chaired by Lt. Gen. Amrit Bunsuya for Thailand and General Som Oon for Cambodia.
