Prime Minister Praises Collaborative Efforts in Addressing Call Center Gang Issue

Bangkok: The Prime Minister extended his gratitude to government and private sectors for their collaborative efforts in tackling the call center gang problem, particularly after a recent visit to the area opposite Poipet. He emphasized the need for continuous action and announced plans to consider constructing a Thai-Cambodian border wall, along with implementing equipment for X-ray inspections of imported goods and installing additional CCTV cameras along the border.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangtrakul, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, detailed the Prime Minister's orders following a cabinet meeting. During an inspection of Aranyaprathet District in Sa Kaeo Province, which is opposite Poipet, Cambodia, there was a significant cooperative effort among various sectors including the Royal Thai Police, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Ministry of Defense, security agencies, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, and private entities. These groups worked effectively to cut off internet and telephone signals, including reducing signal tower height and strength, which yielded positive results.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of considering the impact on local residents' access to telephone and internet services. Despite improvements, he urged all sectors to remain vigilant and coordinate with the government to address any arising issues swiftly.

He further instructed relevant agencies to urgently study the construction of a Thai-Cambodian border wall to prevent illegal crossings and the movements of call center gangs. Coordination with Cambodian authorities, involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense, was also requested to reach a joint agreement.

Additionally, the Prime Minister requested the Customs Department, Ministry of Finance, to explore the necessity of purchasing an X-ray tunnel for customs checkpoints at the Thai-Cambodian border to enhance inspection efficiency. He also advised the Ministry of Interior, security agencies, and other related government bodies to assess the need for more CCTV cameras along the border to ensure comprehensive monitoring of the situation.
