Bangkok: Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, has stated that the recent bombing incidents in the tourist cities of Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi lack any political implications. He urged the media not to speculate prematurely and to await the results of the ongoing investigation.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham emphasized that it is premature to conclude whether the incidents are linked to the issues in the three southern border provinces. He maintained that the situation is being handled by the relevant authorities and reiterated that it holds no political significance. While the impact on tourism remains uncertain, he cautioned against the creation of narratives that could weaken the country for political gain.
Mr. Phumtham also mentioned that a decision on whether the incidents will be discussed in the upcoming National Security Council meeting rests with the Secretary-General. The possibility of reviewing Thai-Myanmar border measures in light of the incidents remains undetermined.
