Bangkok: The Air Force Commander has expressed readiness to deploy combat aircraft within five minutes if military forces are required on the Thai-Cambodian border. This statement comes after Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced bonuses for soldiers who down Thai fighter planes, clarifying that Thailand is merely defending its sovereignty and not engaging in an invasion.
According to Thai News Agency, Air Chief Marshal Panphakdi Pattanakul, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force, discussed the Defense Council's approval of a contingency plan for the border situation. He emphasized that the preparations reflect normal readiness, ensuring rapid deployment of aircraft if necessary.
When questioned about Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet's recent announcement regarding bonuses for Cambodian soldiers who target Thai fighter jets, the Air Force Commander assured that Thailand's operations are not aggressive in nature. He reiterated that the primary goal is the protection of sovereignty without any intent to invade.
Addressing public concerns, ACM Panphakdi urged confidence in the military's capability to safeguard national sovereignty. He asserted that the Air Force, along with other military branches, remains fully prepared. Additionally, Minister of Defense Phumtham Vejjayachai expressed his trust in the military's role in national security.
