Maris Engages in Trade Negotiations with US to Initiate Talks


Paris: “Maris” met with the US Trade Representative, emphasizing that the Thai government attaches importance to trade negotiations and intends to start the process as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the US Trade Representative announced readiness to open negotiations with the Thai side on a date and time that both governments can mutually agree on.



According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Marist Sengiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had the opportunity to meet and discuss with Ambassador Jamieson Greer, US Trade Representative, during the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) in Paris, France. The Minister reiterated that the Thai government places significant importance on trade negotiations with the United States and is eager to initiate the process promptly.



He also mentioned discussions with Mr. Robert F. Godec, the U.S. Ambassador to Thailand, about the possibility of starting online negotiations at the earliest opportunity. Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, will head the Thai negotiating team and is prepared to commence the online negotiation process with the U.S. Trade Representative or the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury immediately. The U.S. Trade Representative has expressed that the U.S. side is also ready to begin negotiations on a mutually agreeable date and time. The Minister will coordinate an appointment for negotiations through the U.S. Ambassador to Thailand as soon as possible.
