Bangkok: A suspect allegedly used a sledgehammer to fatally strike his friend in front of the victim's children, claiming the attack was revenge for the deceased stealing wrought iron to sell. The suspect expressed a desire to apologize to the victim's family and stated readiness to face his fate.
According to Thai News Agency, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Provincial Police have arrested Mr. Chalermwong, known as Kong, in connection with the death of Mr. Pichat, known as Huang. The incident took place at 2 a.m. on February 16, and authorities successfully apprehended the suspect within 12 hours, finding him at Bang Nom Kho Temple in Sena District.
During the investigation, Mr. Kong confessed to the charges. He stated that the deceased had denied the theft with harsh words when confronted at home. Mr. Kong, who had been consuming alcohol, admitted that the situation escalated into an argument. He then used the deceased's hammer to deliver the fatal blow. After the incident, he fled to his home in Sena District. Mr. Kong expressed remorse and a willingness to accept the consequences of his actions.
The suspect declined to reenact the crime scene for authorities. As a result, he has been charged with intentional murder and theft at night by investigators.
