Bangkok: "Itthiphon" has confirmed the readiness to elect members and the president of the Provincial Administrative Organization, emphasizing that factories should inform workers to give them an opportunity to exercise their rights. There have already been 52 complaints about vote buying.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Ittiporn Boonprakong, Chairman of the Election Commission, presided over the opening ceremony of the workshop aimed at developing work standards and internal management in preparation for the election of local council members or local administrators. The workshop also focused on the annual plan for the fiscal year 2025, addressing problems, obstacles, and opinions from the executives of the Election Commission Office. The aim was to consider solutions and implement the Election Commission's observations and suggestions, ensuring integration between the central and regional offices for more efficient and effective operations.
Mr. Itthiporn gave an interview detailing the readiness for the election, scheduled for February 1st, assuring that preparations are on track based on previous experiences. He mentioned that the situation is currently stable with no major issues reported. The Election Commission directors from each province are meeting to practice and ensure that the elections are conducted uniformly across the country. To facilitate voting, the Commission has requested cooperation from the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Industry, urging them to inform the Federation of Thai Industries and the Chamber of Commerce about allowing employees to vote. There are legal repercussions for supervisors or employers who obstruct eligible voters from exercising their rights. Cooperation from provincial chambers of commerce has been solicited since December 13, 2024, as per standard procedure for elections.
Regarding complaints, there have been 52 cases, primarily concerning vote buying. Preventive measures include appointing election inspectors and assistant inspectors, with mobile police units providing additional support. The public and eligible voters are encouraged to participate in the election and provide information to help prevent election fraud.
