House of Representatives Prepares for Crucial Vote on New Prime Minister

Bangkok: Wan Nor confirmed that the House of Representatives is ready to vote on a new prime minister this week, but all parties must be ready. He pointed out that a new government must be formed quickly to avoid impacting the budget and economic growth.

According to Thai News Agency, House Speaker Wan Muhammad Noor Matha stated in an interview that this week's agenda for the House of Representatives is set for a three-day session, September 3-5. Wednesday, September 3, will be for legislative consideration, while Thursday, September 4, will be for the discussion of legislative questions. However, this session was cancelled due to the Cabinet's resignation and the inability to answer questions. However, there are matters of concern that require the invitation of relevant agencies to clarify. Meanwhile, Friday, September 5, will be a special session for the House of Representatives, considering several pending legislation proposed by members of the House of Representatives. The need for expedited enactment will require expedited consideration without discussion.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives addressed the Constitutional Court's ruling that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra had been removed from her ministerial position, resulting in the entire Cabinet being removed from office. The House of Representatives will now need to vote for a new prime minister to form a government. There are two options for selecting a prime minister: Members of the House of Representatives can urgently propose a nominee during the meeting, but the proposal must be submitted with at least one day's notice. Alternatively, the House may hold a special urgent session, requiring a suitable date and the readiness of all members. He urged the whips of both parties to discuss the matter, or political parties with the right to nominate a prime minister can submit proposals.

He also confirmed that the House of Representatives is fully prepared to proceed, as three days of meetings have already been convened this week. Members can be appointed and proceeded with any day they are ready. He emphasized that all parties want the selection of the prime minister and the formation of the government to be conducted without delay, as this will impact the economy and national security.
