Electric Train Flat Fare Initiative Launches Registration via Thang Rath App

Bangkok: Registration has commenced for the "20 Baht All-Round Electric Train" initiative through the "Thang Rath" app, offering unrestricted access to electric trains across all lines for a flat fare. This scheme is available to all, with no limitations on eligibility, time, or ride frequency. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, announced the commencement of registrations for the initiative, which spans 13 routes and 194 stations. The registration process is open-ended, with no eligibility restrictions, allowing anyone with a 13-digit national ID card number to register. This ensures comprehensive service accessibility for the public. In terms of legislative developments, the Ministry of Transport has proposed three key bills to support the project. The House of Representatives has already approved the draft Railway Transport Act in its second and third readings, with the next step being consideration by the Senate. Additionally, the draft Mass Rap id Transit Authority of Thailand Act and the draft Common Ticket Management Act are expected to be finalized shortly. The government is committed to implementing the 20-baht flat-rate policy fully, once all legislative processes are complete, to maximize public benefit. Mr. Jirayu highlighted that the Common Ticket Act will streamline the management of the common ticket system, enhancing convenience and addressing transportation issues systematically and efficiently. The 20-baht fare policy is anticipated to boost ridership by 20%, with current daily usage at approximately 1.7 million passengers across all electric train lines. He further emphasized that the flat-rate electric train fare policy is aimed at alleviating the growing cost of living, especially for those in Bangkok and its vicinity, where daily travel expenses can be significant. This policy ensures access to a fast, safe, and equitable transportation system, aligning with the government's focus on affordability and accessibility. It integrates primary and secondary transportation systems to facilitate seamless and continuous travel for surrounding communities.
