Bangkok: The Criminal Court has set a date for reading the verdict in the case against former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who is accused of violating Section 112 and the Computer Crimes Act. This case arises from an interview he gave to South Korean media in 2015.
According to Thai News Agency, the verdict reading is scheduled for today, August 22, 2025, at the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road. Thaksin Shinawatra is facing charges from the public prosecutor at the Office of Criminal Litigation 8, involving Section 112 of the Criminal Code and the importation of false information into a computer system under the Computer Crimes Act. The hearing is set for 10:00 a.m., and Thaksin is required to be present in person.
The hearing will be conducted in a closed setting, with media and outsiders not permitted to enter the courtroom. This follows a previous trial where Thaksin presented witnesses for his defense, including himself and national legal experts like Professor Emeritus Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam and Professor Thongthong Chandrangsu.
Supporters, notably some members of the Red Shirts, have started gathering around the Criminal Court to show solidarity with Thaksin, amidst heightened security measures. Former Minister of Education, Suchart Thadathomrongwet, who served during Yingluck Shinawatra's government, also visited the court to support Thaksin. He stated that although he had not discussed the case with Thaksin recently, he regularly visits the court to offer his support. He noted that Thaksin had reassured the media not to be concerned about his case.
