Chusak Orders Decisive Action Against Abbot’s Examination Scandal

Chiang Mai: "Chusak" has directed the Office of Buddhism to take firm action against a subdistrict abbot from a prominent temple in Chiang Mai Province. The abbot allegedly hired a monk to take a Pali examination on his behalf, an act considered both a criminal case and a serious breach of discipline.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, addressed the incident involving the monk from the well-known temple. The monk was caught by the examination committee while attempting to sit for the 5th level of the Buddhist examination, originally scheduled to be held in Sanam Luang, Bangkok. Following the incident, Mr. Chusak reported the case to the director of the National Office of Buddhism, who was informed that the provincial abbot had already ordered the dismissal of the abbot from his position.

Mr. Chusak expressed his concerns about the incident, noting that he had been aware of the situation since the previous day and had immediately informed the Office of Buddhism. He emphasized the seriousness of the disciplinary breach and the criminal nature of the act, urging the Office of Buddhism to take decisive measures in response.
