Chinese Nationals Arrested for Illegal Tofu Production in Bangkok

Huai Khwang: Police and employment authorities have apprehended a Chinese man for the illegal production and sale of tofu to Chinese restaurants, generating daily earnings of 1,000 to 2,000 baht.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Prasopchok Aimpinij, Superintendent of Huai Khwang Police Station, collaborated with officers from the Prevention and Suppression Division and the Employment Service Area 10 to conduct a raid. The operation targeted Chinese and Burmese individuals involved in the illegal production and distribution of tofu in the Huai Khwang area.

The raid occurred at a residence in Soi Ratchadaphisek 5, Huai Khwang Subdistrict, Huai Khwang District, Bangkok. Three individuals were detained: Mr. Jian Zhaohui and Mrs. Xi Jian, both of Chinese nationality, and Mr. Lee Xi Jen, of Myanmar nationality. They were caught in the act of making tofu. During questioning, it was disclosed that they had been operating unlawfully since early 2024, supplying tofu to local Chinese restaurants while earning a daily income of approximately 1,000 to 2,000 baht. The rented premises cost 16,000 baht per month.

Upon inspection, officers requested to see the suspects' passports and work permits. While the passports were presented, no work permits were available, leading to their detention at the Huai Khwang Police Station for further legal proceedings.
