Phnom penh: Cambodian forces have been observed moving military equipment into the border area following Phu Phi's transport of such equipment, raising tensions in the region. The 2nd Army Region has identified four key areas of concern, noting Cambodia's strategic movements in response to the current situation along the Thai-Cambodian border.
According to Thai News Agency, the 2nd Army Area Operations Center provided a detailed summary of these developments. As of October 10, 2025, Cambodian movements included the detection of three drones at Chong An Ma, one at Chong Don Ao, two at Prasat Ta Kwai, and seven at Chong Obok. In addition, white smoke was observed behind Phu Phi, suggesting tank preparations, and a large 22-wheel truck covered with a black tarp was spotted heading to the border, presumably carrying military equipment.
Both Thai and Cambodian forces remain in their respective positions, with Thai personnel deployed at surveillance points to monitor and respond to any changes. The Second Army Region is actively preparing for discussions at the Thailand-Cambodia Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting, emphasizing the protection of national interests.
The meeting, hosted by Cambodia, was attended by representatives from both nations, including Maj. Gen. Kampanat Wappansue from Thailand and Major General Nit Narong from Cambodia. The agenda focused on confirming the RBC meeting, scheduling it for October 15-17, 2025, and setting the venue at the Chong Chom permanent border crossing in Kab Choeng District, Surin Province.
Key points for discussion included a detailed plan for relocating heavy weapons to their regular locations under the Coordinating Group's observation and inspection, and confirmation of cooperative efforts to eradicate mines following humanitarian principles. The RBC meeting is crucial for fostering cooperation, enhancing understanding, and maintaining peace along the Thai-Cambodian border.
