Bangkok: The Cabinet held a confidential meeting restricted to ministers, focusing on the qualifications of ministers and political office holders. The meeting concluded with the assignment of Minister Chusak Sirinil to forward a case to the Constitutional Court to prevent future petitions regarding these qualifications.
According to Thai News Agency, the secret agenda was announced by the Cabinet Secretariat at the end of the meeting. This agenda involved sending a query to the Constitutional Court about the qualifications of those holding ministerial and political positions, particularly focusing on the definitions of 'honesty and integrity'. This measure aims to clarify and address potential issues before they necessitate further interpretation or petitions, a problem that has occurred previously.
During the meeting, Mr. Chusak Sirinil expressed his readiness to draft a letter to the Constitutional Court seeking clarity on whether individuals reprimanded or previously imprisoned, but later released, can be considered honest. Notably, no ministers offered additional opinions during this discussion.
The inquiry coincides with reports of a cabinet reshuffle and existing conflicts within the coalition government.
