Cabinet Approves New Regulations to Simplify Work Permit Process for Foreign Workers

Bangkok: The Cabinet has given the green light to a draft ministerial regulation aimed at simplifying the process of requesting and issuing work permits for foreign workers in Thailand. This new regulation also introduces options for foreigners to receive their work permits through authorization to others or via post or online platforms.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Karom Polpornklang, the Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that the Cabinet approved the principles of the draft Ministerial Regulation on the Application for Work Permits, Issuance of Work Permits, and Notification of Foreign Workers' Employment. This amendment is intended to improve the criteria for obtaining work permits for foreign nationals, aiming to facilitate the process and reduce unnecessary steps and expenses.

Mr. Karom explained that under the current regulation, foreigners need to collect their work permits in person at the Department of Employment, which poses an inconvenience. This requirement has led to increased expenses and disruptions for both foreign workers and employers. Employers often face operational challenges due to the need for their foreign employees to travel to obtain their permits.

The Ministry of Labor has, therefore, proposed amendments to the existing regulations. These changes will allow foreigners to delegate the collection of their work permits to others, or have them delivered by post or online, thereby enhancing flexibility and reducing limitations. This initiative is expected to make the process more convenient for both foreign workers and business operators in Thailand.
