Prime Minister Confident in Ministry Approaches to Resolve Rice Price Challenges

Bangkok: The Prime Minister has expressed confidence that the strategies formulated by the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture will effectively address the current rice price issues. This comes after a series of consultations with relevant agencies aimed at tackling the pricing challenges of agricultural products both in the immediate and long-term future.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra announced the outcomes of the recent Cabinet meeting, highlighting the urgency with which the government is addressing agricultural pricing issues. She emphasized the involvement of ministers and relevant agencies in the development of comprehensive measures. These measures include the cultivation of suitable crop breeds, the integration of technology and innovation, and market research, all aimed at enhancing the stability and sustainability of farmers' livelihoods and increasing their income.

In response to the plight of fishermen affected by the previous government's initiatives to eliminate illegal fishing practices, the Department of Fisheries and the Ministry of Agriculture have been tasked with swiftly devising compensation strategies. These strategies are intended to support fishing boat owners who have not yet received assistance, with proposals to be submitted to the Cabinet for further consideration.

Regarding the government's stance on the rice price guarantee demanded by farmers, the Prime Minister indicated that while specifics are still under review, the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives are expected to yield satisfactory solutions. The government aims to ensure that these joint efforts align closely with farmers' needs and expectations.
