Ratthanathibet: A 23-year-old babysitter, Ms. Prapassara, reported to Ratthanathibet Police Station after finding her bank account unexpectedly swelled by more than 500,000 baht, causing her mobile phone to freeze due to the influx of transaction notifications.
According to Thai News Agency, the unusual activity began overnight, with money transfers ranging from hundreds to thousands of baht, each ending in the number nine. In total, the mysterious deposits amounted to 527,571 baht. Ms. Prapassara, who had only 215 baht in her account before the incident, was baffled by the source of the funds and concerned about potential legal implications.
Ms. Prapassara recounted that the continuous notifications led her to contact her bank, which speculated that the transfers might have been mistakenly directed to her account during an online live sale. Seeking to prevent further complications, she requested the bank to suspend any additional transfers.
The situation escalated when, after freezing her account, an unknown Instagram user reached out, requesting her personal information and contacting her acquaintances, claiming someone was in trouble. The police advised Ms. Prapassara to gather all evidence and exercise caution when responding to messages from unknown individuals to avoid scams. Authorities plan to issue a summons to investigate those involved in the transactions.
