FCB and adidas Win Grand Prix at Cannes Lions Festival

Runner 321 Campaign Pushes Inclusivity in Mainstream Sports

CANNES, France, June 21, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — FCB received their second Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity today for adidas and FCB Canada’s campaign “Runner 321.” The campaign received recognition in the Direct category, which celebrates targeted and response-driven creativity.

The campaign enlisted Chris Nikic: triathlete, marathon runner and the first adidas-sponsored athlete with Down syndrome. He was also the first person with Down syndrome to finish an Ironman triathlon. Growing up, Nikic never saw anyone who looked like him represented in mainstream sports. With help from adidas—and this campaign—he hopes to change that.

Nikic ran the Boston Marathon for the first time in 2022 as Runner 321. The Boston Marathon was the first race to reserve bib 321 for a neurodivergent athlete, bringing national media attention to the 321 movement. Now, all six of the world’s major marathons — Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, New York, Tokyo — have reserved bib 321 for their 2023 races.

The number 321 refers to trisomy 21 (tri-21), the medical identifier for Down syndrome. Consequently, this is an important number within the Down syndrome community and the reason behind World Down Syndrome Day on March 21 each year.

The Grand Prix brings the FCB network’s awards total to 36 Lions won to date at this year’s Festival, including two Grand Prix and five Gold.

Economic cooperation – bright spot in Vietnam-RoK relations: Deputy PM

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai on June 22 said that economic cooperation has continued to be a bright spot in relations between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK), which is once again proved by a large number of Korean businesses that are visiting the country, attending a business forum and signing cooperation agreements during the State visit to Vietnam by President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Speaking at the meeting with the RoK’s Deputy Prime Minister Choo Kyungho who is also Minister of Economy and Finance, Khai affirmed that economic cooperation between the two countries is flourishing more than ever.

The two Deputy PMs reviewed the economic cooperation in general and the implementation of the second Vietnam – RoK Deputy Prime Minister-level Economic Dialogue in particular. They also made recommendations to further promote the cooperation.

The RoK is currently the biggest investor of Vietnam in terms of direct investment with accumulated investment of 82 billion USD, the second biggest partner in development cooperation, tourism, and labour; and the third in terms of trade cooperation with trade revenue of 86.4 billion USD in 2022.

Khai suggested the two sides continue to promote economic cooperation in the direction of balance, sustainability, and mutual benefit. The two sides signed a “Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of Korea Plus in Vietnam and Vietnam Plus in Korea” and a joint statement on establishing an electronic origin data exchange system. Those are very important prerequisites for the two countries to further promote bilateral trade.

Khai said that although the bilateral trade cooperation has improved, Vietnam still sees a large trade deficit, therefore, the two sides also need to coordinate to implement measures to further open their markets.

He welcomed the signing of the Letter of Intent by the two sides on cooperation to promote the startup ecosystem and exchange of human resources. He hoped that the RoK will increase the reception of Vietnamese workers and expand labour cooperation between the two countries.

Khai said the Vietnamese government encourages Korean businesses to make new investments and expand their investment, especially in priority areas such as infrastructure development, production of high-tech electronic equipment, semiconductors, Big Data, biotechnology, and smart city.

He proposed the RoK create favourable conditions and loosen technical measures on food safety and animal and plant quarantine to promote the export of Vietnamese agricultural and aquatic products to the RoK.

Khai also called on the RoK to further expand the scale of grant aid to Vietnam, especially in the fields of research and development, and innovation.

For his part, Choo said that Vietnam is the country that RoK has the deepest cooperation with. The ongoing trip to Vietnam is the first state visit to Southeast Asia by President Yoon Suk Yeol, showing that the RoK attaches great importance to its relations with Vietnam.

He also shared his points of view on Khai’s proposals and informed the Vietnamese Deputy PM of the areas that the RoK wants to cooperate with Vietnam, including digital and green development./.

The RoK President said his visit to Vietnam takes place at a time when bilateral relations are enjoying sound development.

Dak Lak attacks – organised terrorist acts: official

Maj. Gen. Pham Ngoc Viet, Director of the Ministry of Public Security’s Homeland Security Department, has pointed out some external terrorism risks that may harm Vietnam’s national security and also confirmed that the June 11 attacks on the administrations’ headquarters and civilians in Dak Lak province were organised terrorist acts.

He released the information while delivering an important speech at the high-level conference of heads of counter-terrorism agencies held by the United Nations in New York from June 19 to 22, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

The official stated that Vietnam resolutely condemns and fights terrorist acts conducted in any form and supports counter-terrorism measures taken by countries and international organisations in line with the UN Charter and international law.

In Vietnam, there haven’t been any terrorist attacks by international individuals or terrorist organisations, neither has the country detected activities of their affiliates, he noted.

However, it has identified certain external terrorism risks that may harm its national security, Viet said, elaborating that there are several objects often targeted by terrorists such as offices of foreign diplomatic agencies. Risks also come from the flows of militants of the self-proclaimed Islamic State from the Middle East to Southeast Asia. Terrorist and violent extremism groups are taking advantage of technology and social networks to spread extremism around the world, and Vietnam is highly vulnerable as it is among countries with large numbers of internet users.

Besides, exiled reactionary Vietnamese organisations and extremists based in some countries have taken advantage of ethnic and religious affairs, set up bases and affiliates, provided training for some persons in Vietnam, and sent their members to enter Vietnam to direct the implementation of terrorist acts in the country. These organisations have used the territories of Southeast Asian countries to open disguised offices, recruit and train members, and use the internet and social networks to incite and guide bad elements in Vietnam to make terrorist attacks on law enforcement forces and civilians, according to the official.

On June 11, two groups of persons armed with guns and self-made weapons attacked the headquarters of two communal administrations and civilians in Dak Lak province, killing nine, injuring two, and taking three hostages.

“We have arrested 65 suspects, including a member of a US-based organisation who received orders from this organisation to intrude into Vietnam and stage the attacks,” Viet revealed.

Those attacks were organised terrorist acts that were barbarous and inhumane, he went on, stressing that Vietnam strongly condemns the individuals and organisations who have harboured, backed, or directed the acts, as well as the persons directly involved in the incident.

Vietnam calls on countries and relevant international organisations to assist and cooperate closely with Vietnam in the investigation of the incident and the fight against similar acts, he went on.

“The combat against terrorism requires common efforts of the international community. Only through solidarity, cooperation, and responsibility sharing, can we effectively deal with this global threat and promote peace and security of each country and the world,” Viet emphasised./.
