State Secretary Minister opens presidential archive, car exhibition

The presidential archive and car exhibition to commemorate the 77th Independence Day of Indonesia was officially inaugurated by State Secretary Minister Pratikno at Sarinah Mall, Central Jakarta, on Saturday.

“By saying ‘Bismillahrrohmanirrohim’ (In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful), we open the exhibition this morning,” he stated.

A total of seven presidential cars used by the seven presidents of Indonesia are showcased at the southern parking lot of the shopping center.

The 1939 Buick car used by Indonesia’s first president, Soekarno, became the oldest presidential car to be displayed at the event.

Meanwhile, the newest presidential car displayed is the 2008 Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard used by the sixth president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and the seventh president, Joko Widodo.

Meanwhile, the archives were showcased along the hallway of the north entrance of Sarinah Mall.

Some of the archives include video recording of the reading of Indonesia’s independence proclamation as well as several government policies, including President Soekarno’s order to eradicate illiteracy.

The minister expects that visitors can take a cue from the historical objects showcased at the event.

“Certainly, it (the implementation of the exhibition) not only encourages us to directly see the archives and cars, but more importantly, (we can learn) how the founding fathers, the nation’s heroes, have worked hard to risk everything they had for the establishment of this beloved country,” he remarked.

He emphasized that it is now the responsibility of all Indonesian people to continue the struggle of the heroes.

Furthermore, Pratikno noted that the Sarinah Mall is a strategic location to hold the exhibition since the shopping center has a remarkable history for being initiated by President Soekarno as the first mall in Indonesia.

The mall also serves as the showcase of Indonesian heritage of art works and creative products, he stated.

“Hopefully, we would be able to inherit the fighting spirit demonstrated by the nation’s founders. Thus, we can continue to building an advanced Indonesia,” he affirmed.

The presidential archive and car exhibition is scheduled to be held until August 31, 2022.

Minister Sumadi urges private firms to develop self-driving vehicles

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has urged the private sector and Indonesian universities to develop autonomous vehicles in Indonesia by taking the opportunities and challenges of such an undertaking into account.

He made the statement during a webinar on “Glancing at the Prospects of Autonomous Vehicles in Indonesia: Opportunities and Challenges,” accessed from here on Saturday.

“(There are) A number of challenges (to developing self-driving vehicles that) include road readiness, Internet networks, environmental conditions, regulations related to technical matters of roadworthiness, and the implementation of vehicle testing. We are currently drafting and finalizing the regulations,” Sumadi informed.

He said that driverless or autonomous vehicles are intelligent transport systems (ITS) that will be the transportation of the future.

He listed some advantages of using such vehicles, based on research conducted by the McKinsey Global Institute and TU Delf on electric and automated transport in 2019, which consist of ensuring punctuality, reducing carbon emissions, minimizing accident rates due to human error by 40 percent, and lowering traffic congestion.

At the same webinar, the director of private property company PT Jababeka Tbk, Sutedja Sidarta Darmono, expressed his support for developing autonomous vehicles in Indonesia.

According to him, infrastructure development that supports the growth of the autonomous vehicle ecosystem is necessary, such as strengthening the Internet network.

“It will require collaboration from all relevant stakeholders, both academicians and the private sector, to create a conducive climate so that this autonomous vehicle can be realized,” Sumadi added.

In line with the push for autonomous vehicles, the government has been preparing to build the new capital city in East Kalimantan under the green and smart city concept by prioritizing the use of new and renewable energy, including the use of electric and autonomous vehicles.

Child-friendly broadcast programs in Indonesia improving: KPI

The quality and appeal of child-friendly broadcast programs in Indonesia are improving with an increase in their  advertising revenue, deputy chairperson of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) Mulyo Hadi Purnomo has said.

At a press conference on the 2022 Child-Friendly Broadcasting Award (APRA) here on Saturday, he informed that the number of television stations broadcasting child-friendly programs has also increased.

Ten out of the 18 television stations monitored by KPI are running various child and family programs, including the 102 programs in the fray for the 2022 APRA, he added.

The KPI is proud of the increasing number of programs since the public has often complained about the lack of programs for children and families made by television stations, he said.

Moreover, family programs can become a medium to educate the community on fostering their children, he added.

Hence, the commission has also included family programs as the newest award category for the 2022 APRA.

Furthermore, radio programs on children’s fairy tales have also emerged as a new category at the awards. Thus, a total of 54 children’s programs from 54 radios are competing in the radio child program and children’s fairy tale radio broadcast categories at the 2022 APRA.

“We have noted that the (direct) interaction between parents and children has decreased a lot — and in the past, (listening to) fairy tales (read by parents) were very much awaited (by the children),” Purnomo said.

Hence, KPI is attempting to make fairy tales popular among children again through the radio.

“Hopefully, it will be a good example,” he added.

Earlier, he said that the 2022 APRA features 13 categories, including Indonesian animations, educational programs for children, foreign animations, variety shows/reality shows, features/documentaries, Indonesian family programs, radio fairy tale programs, and radio child programs.

Furthermore, there are special awards for broadcasters who have consistently produced child-friendly programs, such as the 2022 APRA Best Television, 2022 Child-Friendly Television, 2022 Child Caring Radio, and 2022 Indonesian Child Education Caring Television awards.

77th Independence Day momentum to realize food security: ID FOOD

The commemoration of the 77th Independence Day can be a momentum to realize food security for all people, state-run food holding ID FOOD has said.

“On the 77th anniversary of Indonesia (Independence Day), let’s determine (ourselves) to become ‘food fighters,’ thus we can use our independence to advance the Indonesian food sector,” president commissioner of ID FOOD’s holding company PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia, Bayu Krisnamurthi, said here on Saturday.

Hence, as a state-owned food holding, ID FOOD has the responsibility to assist the Indonesian people to achieve food security.

“We became independent (from the colonizers) to free the people — (and) independence must be shared. We use the term ‘food fighters’ since we still have to fight for our food security,” the official remarked.

Meanwhile, president director of PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia, Frans Marganda Tambunan, said that the food sector in Indonesia needs to recover faster and stronger.

This must be realized by ID FOOD as the company that has been given a mandate by the government to advance the domestic food sector, he added.

In addition, the holding is also responsible for promoting and prospering its partners, namely farmers and fishermen.

“It is quite a huge work for all of us (ID FOOD), hence we will keep our spirits up,” Tambunan added.

Furthermore, on the same occasion, Krisnamurthi estimated that the price of wheat will not spike again since the commodity has reached its highest price.

The price will not rise again considering that currently, wheat harvest has started in Europe as well as North and South America, he added.

About 20 to 25 percent of the total carbohydrate consumption of Indonesian people comes from processed wheat products, such as noodles and bread, he noted.

However, the increasing price of wheat will not have much impact on the domestic market if Indonesia is able to diversify its food sources so that the country does not need to depend on imports, he said.

Gov’t to address global crises, recover national economy: Minister

G20 served as the government’s platform to address the global crisis while formulating various policies to restore the national economy, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated.

“Currently, we are promoting and encouraging the mitigation of inequality in global economic recovery through the Indonesian G20 presidency this year, with the theme ‘Recover Together, Recover Stronger,'” Minister Hartarto noted in an official statement here on Saturday.

Indonesia assuming the G20 Presidency in 2022 was one of the government’s approaches in pursuing sustainable economic recovery during the post-pandemic period, he highlighted.

During its presidency, Indonesia proposed efforts to improve the global economy through equitable distribution of vaccinations and global health infrastructure among developed, developing, and underdeveloped countries, the minister affirmed.

Indonesia’s other contributions in overcoming global problems encompassed resolving the food and energy crisis plaguing various parts of the world through transition to affordable and environmentally friendly energy by initiating technology and knowledge transfer between developed and developing countries, he elaborated.

The government has also been striving to address the imbalance in food distribution through multilateral and bilateral diplomacy to address issues in the food supply chain.

The government has also formulated and implemented various domestic policies to mitigate post-pandemic national economic inequality through balancing policies related to health and socio-economics, with orientation towards health management, social protection, and economic recovery programs.

Minister Hartarto listed efforts made by government, such as providing social assistance for low-income communities, allowing access to financing for MSMEs and farmers through the People’s Business Credit, capacity building and social protection for workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic through Pre-Employment Cards, and facilitating business through the implementation of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation.

They also sought to improve the national economy by encouraging the use of evolving digital technology to support the development of MSMEs and improve the lives of low-income households.

The minister said that through the application of these policies, backed by collaboration of several parties, the government managed to control the impact of the pandemic to a significant extent, so that in future, it is expected to create national economic stability and play a role in solving other global problems.

“We have succeeded in controlling the health, social, and economic impacts of the global pandemic. Thus, Indonesia was chosen by the United Nations as one of the five countries that succeeded in mitigating the (impact of the) pandemic and was tasked with formulating global policies to address the food, energy, and financial crises under the Global Crisis Response Group,” he concluded.
