Reveal names of companies violating DMO regulation: legislator

A legislator has urged the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to reveal the names of companies violating the domestic market obligation (DMO) amid a decline in national coal supply for electricity generation.

“We urge the ministry’s Directorate General of Mineral and Coal to reveal the data on companies that are disobeying the domestic market obligation directed at fulfilling the coal demand for the state electricity company (PT PLN),” Yulian Gunhar, a member of Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), said in a press release issued in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The legislator pointed out that the compliance of coal companies with the DMO directive in 2021 barely reached 1 percent and that contributed to the decline in coal supply, which has threatened the state electricity company’s ability to meet the electricity demand of ten million residents.

He criticized coal companies for prioritizing profit and pressed them to be attentive to the national coal supply issue that is affecting electricity output in Indonesia.

Coal companies must do their bit for the public good as the government has provided many business conveniences to them, he said.

“I suggest the government revoke the license of companies that violate the DMO directive, but companies that adhere to the directive should not be restricted from exporting their products,” Gunhar advised.

Earlier, the government imposed a coal export ban from January 1 until January 31, 2022, to help PT PLN replenish its depleting coal stock.

President Joko Widodo also reminded coal companies to adhere to the domestic market obligation by allocating a percentage of their production for the domestic market.

“The DMO scheme obliges coal companies to allocate some of their coal for PT PLN. This regulation is absolute and should not violate the obligation for any reason,” he said in an online press statement issued from Istana Merdeka in Jakarta on Monday (January 3, 2022).

The President warned coal companies that violating the DMO obligation could lead to their export license being suspended and business license revoked.

He also instructed the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, State-Owned Enterprises Ministry, and PT PLN to devise the necessary measures for protecting the coal supply that the company requires to produce electricity.

No AEFI indication during booster vaccination trial: task force

A clinical trial of COVID-19 booster vaccinations has recorded no indications of severe adverse events following immunization (AEFI) on research subjects, COVID-19 Handling Task Force has informed.

At an online press conference here on Tuesday, the task force’s national spokesperson, Wiku Adisasmito, said that the research has recommended a six-month gap between the second and third dose.

“The plan is to have the third dose booster vaccination program conducted from January 12, in accordance with WHO’s target in the first trimester of 2022,” he added.

Booster vaccinations have been prepared ever since the official recommendation was issued by the Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI) and the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM), he said.

The recommendation also covers the types of vaccines that will be used, he informed.

The third dose will be given first to people aged 18 years and above who live in districts or cities that have reached 70-percent coverage for the first dose, he said.

In addition, the districts or cities should have also reached 60 percent coverage for the second dose, he informed.

Separately, Health Ministry spokesperson Siti Nadia Tarmizi said that booster vaccinations will start from January 12, 2022, and will include both free and paid vaccinations.

Free booster vaccines, which will be provided under government subsidies, will be given to fund assistance recipients (PBI), especially the elderly, she informed.

“The government’s target is to vaccinate the elderly as a group that is vulnerable to being hospitalized and also experiencing severe symptoms, even death when exposed (to the virus)” she explained.

Those who are not eligible for free booster vaccines will be able to get booster doses at health facilities by paying around Rp300 thousand, she added.

Banyumas: Man arrested for posting obscene photos of ex-lover

The Banyumas city police, Central Java, have detained a 25-year-old man for posting obscene photos of his ex-lover on social media and sending their prints to the victim’s home.

AJ, a resident of Kemranjen, Banyumas district, was arrested from his home on Monday (January 3, 2021), after evading arrest for more than one year, Banyumas Police chief, Commissioner M. Firman L. Hakim, informed in Banyumas on Tuesday.

The victim, DV (21), also a resident of Banyumas, filed a case against AJ over the photos in 2020.

She reportedly found out about the photos from three witnesses, who informed her that AJ had posted nude photos of her on WhatsApp groups and Facebook in February 2020. They reportedly told DV that the person in the images looked like her, police said.

Furthermore, AJ also allegedly printed and sent the photos to the victim’s home.

Based on the report, officers from the Banyumas Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency conducted an investigation to determine AJ’s whereabouts, who reportedly fled to the Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi) area.

“Finally, we were able to arrest the perpetrator who was in his house,” Hakim said on Tuesday.

AJ admitted to posting the photos so that the victim would meet him before she broke up with him unilaterally, head of Banyumas Criminal Investigation Agency, Berry, informed.

AJ took the photos while they were still in a relationship, he said.

“When they were still in a relationship, the perpetrator often asked for the victim’s naked photos over the phone,” he informed.

In addition to detaining the perpetrator, Banyumas Police also secured evidence such as five pieces of photo prints, one mobile phone, one compact disc (CD), one bundle of photo prints, among others for further legal process, he said.

AJ has been charged under Article 45 paragraph (1) of Law No. 19 of 2016 on Amendments to Law No. 11 of 2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions. If found guilty, he faces imprisonment of up to six years and/or a maximum fine of Rp1 billion.

Suspected Militant Accused of Beheadings Killed in Indonesia

PALU, INDONESIA — Indonesian security forces killed a suspected militant accused of beheadings in a shootout Tuesday in a sweeping counterterrorism campaign against extremists in remote mountain jungles, police said.

Provincial police chief Rudy Sufahriadi said Ahmad Gazali, 27, also known as Ahmad Panjang, a key member of the East Indonesia Mujahideen network, was fatally shot by a joint team of military and police officers near Uempasa hamlet in Central Sulawesi province’s mountainous Parigi Moutong district. It borders Poso district, an extremist hotbed in the province.

The East Indonesia Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the killings of police officers and minority Christians, some by beheading. It has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group. Police have said Gazali conducted several of the group’s executions, including the beheadings of four Christian farmers last May.

The joint team was patrolling the area when it came upon two militants in a camp, Sufahriadi said at a news conference. He said the second militant escaped into the jungle.

Tuesday’s shootout occurred four months after security forces killed two militants in another jungle shootout, including Ali Kalora, the group’s leader, who was one of the country’s most wanted militants.

“We are still searching for three remaining suspected members of the group,” Sufahriadi said, “We urge them to immediately surrender or we’ll continue hunting them down.”

Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, has conducted a crackdown on militants since bombings on the resort island of Bali in 2002 killed 202 people, mostly Western and Asian tourists.

Militant attacks on foreigners in Indonesia have been largely replaced in recent years by smaller, less deadly strikes targeting the government, mainly police and anti-terrorism forces, and people militants consider to be infidels, inspired by Islamic State group tactics abroad.
