Jakarta entrepreneurs donate 70,000 cans of fish for residents

Jakarta’s Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran received 70 thousand cans of fish collected by entrepreneurs for residents.

During the “Metro Jaya Police Care” event at JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Friday, in addition to 70 thousand cans of processed fish products, the police chief also received five thousand food packages to help the community, especially in Jakarta.

“Seventy thousand cans is equivalent to 70 tons of skipjack tuna. I hope these sardines and tuna can increase people’s immunity, especially since they have also been vaccinated,” Imran remarked here on Friday.

The assistance was organized through a collaboration between the Purse Seine Nusantara Fishermen Association (HNPN) and the Muara Baru Fishery Club, he informed. In addition, J99 Corp provided basic food assistance and PT. Electric Vehicle Indonesia provided units of vehicles to distribute the aid, he said.

HNPN head James Then said the 70 thousand cans of processed fish consisted of processed skipjack tuna, sardines, and tuna products.

“In this pandemic condition, I gathered fisheries business actors, especially in Muara Baru, to help independently. Even though the current conditions are difficult, we also have to help others,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, the CEO of J99 Corp, Gilang Widya Pramana, said he directly bought the food packages from Malang, East Java.

“We provided five thousand food packages consisting of rice, cooking oil, and others. We brought them directly from Malang,” he informed.

The police chief lauded the assistance from entrepreneurs and described it as an act of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) in helping the community during the pandemic.

“I think that we can overcome all these difficulties and manage to make Indonesia the number 6 country in balancing the economy and the pandemic because of this (mutual cooperation),” he remarked.

Economic activities in West Jakarta on the uptick: tourism office

Economic activities in West Jakarta, especially in malls and restaurants in the region, have increased amid Level 3 Public Activities Restrictions (PPKM), according to the city government.

This is reflected by the growing number of people visiting malls and restaurants, it reported.

“Malls and restaurants are visited a lot. Many people go to the restaurants to experience culinary tourism,” chief of the West Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Sherly Yuliana, said when contacted here on Friday.

The majority of people are choosing restaurants and malls as destinations because they are affordable and accessible, she pointed out.

In addition, tourist attractions and some city parks have not been able to operate, she added.

Yuliana said she considered the bustle in malls and restaurants as a sign of economic recovery, especially for tourism business players.

She further said her office is still ascertaining the transaction value of tourism businesses during the easing of PPKM.

“From our supervision (the economy) has started to recover. The movement of their business transactions is monitored by the revenue and tax agency,” Yuliana informed.

Despite the increase in the number of visitors at malls and restaurants, all tourism and entertainment businesses in the region are still implementing strict health protocols, she assured.

According to her, several large businesses are already using the PeduliLindungi application to check visitors’ health status.

“Thus, tourism enterprises can continue to operate and tighten health protocols altogether,” she remarked.

She said she hopes that the positive trend will continue to grow so that tourism businesses can slowly recover in the midst of the pandemic.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo had encouraged entrepreneurs to stay optimistic in facing various challenges in recovering the economy, which has been battered by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto.

He made the statement at a press conference with businesspersons from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI), and Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo) at the Presidential Palace Complex.

China’s Hangzhou marks one-year countdown to 19th Asian Games

On the evening of September 10th, Hangzhou, the host city of the 19th Asian Games, will hold a one-year countdown event highlighting various expectations. The torch design and official sports uniform design of Hangzhou Asian Games will officially released during the event, sending an invitation to the world.

Six years ago, Hangzhou became the third city in China to host the Asian Games after Beijing and Guangzhou. As an Asia-wide sports gala, the Asian Games is not only a sports event, but also a concentrated display of a city’s civilization concept, public participation, high-tech achievements and international image.

With the overall positioning of “New Era, Great Asian Games” and the concept of hosting a green, smart, economical and ethical event, the Hangzhou Asian Games has overcome the impact of COVID-19 and made solid progress in all areas of preparation.

This year is decisive for the preparations for Hangzhou Asian Games. The Games has 55 competition venues, 5 Asian Games villages and athletes sub-villages in Hangzhou and 5 co-host cities in the province.

At present, 42 competition venues have been completed, and the competition functionality acceptance is underway. It is expected that all venues will be delivered and enter the trial operation before the end of 2021. As early as March this year, the first phase of sport entry has been completed. On the basis of 45 participating countries (regions) in previous years, it included Oceania countries (regions) for the first time, covering all 61 disciplines of the Asian Games.

“Preparations for the Hangzhou Asian Games have made remarkable progress with many highlights,” Prince Ahmed, President of the Olympic Council of Asia, spoke highly of the preparations for the Hangzhou Asian Games at the 39th General Assembly of the OCA on December 16, 2020.

Another remarkable result of this conference is the announcement that esports and breaking are officially included in the competitions of Hangzhou Asian Games. So far, the Games will see 40 sports and 61 disciplines. The official entry of esports into the Games has also become a major feature and highlight of the innovation and inclusiveness of Hangzhou Asian Games.

“Intelligence” was frequently mentioned during the preparations for the Hangzhou Asian Games. Creating a “smart” Asian Games has become the focus for all walks of life at home and abroad. Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee takes digitalization reform as the engine and relies on the advantages of digital economy in Zhejiang and Hangzhou to promote the development of “Smart Asian Games”. The deep integration of the latest technology with the Asian Games scenarios are applied in the organizing, participating and watching of the Games. Asian athletes and guests can feel the intelligence of smart cities and the charm of future cities.

For example, in the field of intelligent venues, “Big Lotus”, Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, won many awards in China. The “Little Lotus”, the Tennis Centre, can rotate and close according to weather conditions thanks to its world-leading technology, according to Chen Weiqiang, deputy secretary-general of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 Organising Committee and vice mayor of Hangzhou,

“To ensure the success of the Games and the improvement of the city, our stadium construction has always combined the operation during the Games and the use after the Games. It is not only to meet the needs of the Games, but more importantly to leave a legacy of the Games for the city and the people,” Chen said. Hangzhou will increase the use of venues after the Games, promote sports for all, mark the Asian Games into a city brand, let more people come to Hangzhou, know Zhejiang, and let the world feel the cultural heritage and innovation vitality of Hangzhou, according to him.

The preparations for the Asian Games will continue to make joint efforts in sports service, smart city development and branding. Efforts will also be made to create a superb sports and cultural event with Chinese style, Zhejiang glamour and Hangzhou flavour, so that the Hangzhou Asian Games will impress the world in 2022.

Ministry highlights low intellectual property awareness among citizens

The Ministry of Law and Human Rights drew attention to the low intellectual property awareness among citizens that resulted in numerous related violations.

“Indonesia encounters numerous problems in its efforts to enforce the law related to intellectual property, which include low awareness among the people,” the ministry’s official, Anom Wibowo, noted in a written statement received here on Friday.

In order to address the issue, the Ministry’s Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) has disseminated information in the physical market and in e-commerce or the digital market in the hopes that merchants would no longer sell counterfeit goods.

“This dissemination will be conducted until December 2021, and we will then enforce the law in January 2022,” Wibowo remarked.

Wibowo highlighted that the program aims to offer people an opportunity to change their business.

He pointed out that Indonesia was already on the Office of the United States Trade Representative’s (USTR’s) priority watch list (PWL), a list of nations with a high level of intellectual property violations within the last 33 years.

To come off this list, the government had formed Indonesia’s PWL Status Mitigation Operation Task Force in Intellectual Property that initially comprised 17 ministries or institutions, though now, it is just five, he remarked.

“This task force is expected to have a more effective and efficient impact in eradicating intellectual property violations,” Wibowo emphasized.

In addition to the task force, the DJKI, through its Directorate of Dispute Solving and Investigation, coordinates with the intellectual property representatives in the ministry’s regional offices in Indonesia’s 31 provinces.

Thus, it annuls the need for citizens to file their complaints with the central government. Representatives in the region can take action or request for support from the central government to take action if the need arises.

Moreover, the DJKI is currently providing training and education to civil servant investigators (PPNS). By improving the quality of human resources, DJKI is optimistic of more cases of intellectual property violations being solved.

West Bandung culinary sector globally competitive: Tourism Minister

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno has said that he believes the performing arts and culinary sub-sectors of West Bandung district can compete on the international level.

He invited the performing arts and culinary sector players of West Bandung district to continue to innovate and collaborate to produce quality products amid the pandemic.

“Local potential must be enhanced to open jobs widely. Remember, the best business starts in times of crisis,” Uno remarked in a press statement received here on Friday.

At the District / City Creative Development Workshop (KaTa) in West Bandung on Thursday, Uno said the district has compelling performing arts such as the sasapian and jaipongan traditional dance.

Culinary products of note from the district include chocolate wajit (traditional cake), coffee-flavored chocolate, gurilemcrackers, and local pies, he added.

The Creative KaTa Development program has been organized in West Bandung district to increase the income of local creative economy business players and regional economic income, the minister informed.

The program also aims to boost the added value and competitiveness of creative economy products and encourage the creativity and innovation of business players, he said.

“We launch the Creative KaTa of West Bandung district in Lembang because we believe that West Bandung is the center of the nation’s best talents in the field of creative economy,” the minister added.

During Thursday’s workshop, Uno tasted a unique culinary product of West Bandung—chocolanjit, a chocolate bar that contains wajit. He also joined in a jaipong dance with the Mojang Priangan dancers.

Through the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, the government has continued to accelerate the recovery of the tourism sector and the creative economy, he said. To that end, the government has been promoting the ‘Proud Traveling Program in Indonesia’ or BWI, he added.

The government is also promoting the tagline #DiIndonesiaAja (Stay In Indonesia), hoping it will resonate with the public, he noted.

According to Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, tourism has declined 70 percent and trust in travel is low, therefore, tourism recovery must focus on domestic tourists, especially millennials.

Daily COVID cases expected to remain in 3,000–7,000 range: minister

The number of daily COVID-19 cases in Indonesia is expected to remain between three thousand and seven thousand in the coming days, according to Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

The enforcement of people’s movement restrictions (PPKM) by the government has managed to lower the COVID-19 composite index by more than 20 percent in Java-Bali, Pandjaitan, who is also the PPKM coordinator, informed in a press release issued here on Friday.

The number of daily cases on Thursday showed an 88.1-percent decline compared to July 15, 2021, he said.

According to the minister, the virus that causes COVID-19 is expected to linger and become endemic, as medicines or vaccines with 100-percent efficacy against COVID-19 are not available so far.

Hence, for handling the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia will continue to accelerate the vaccination program, enforce health protocols involving the 3Ms (wearing face masks, keeping safe distance, and washing hands with soap), conduct the 3Ts (testing, tracing, and treatment), and establish centralized isolation centers, he said.

The government has also developed a COVID-19 tracing application called PeduliLindung (CareProtect) for screening, tracing, and health protocol implementation, he noted.

“Indonesia ranks sixth in the world on the number of people who have been vaccinated and total injections. The daily vaccination rate is targeted at more than 2 million per day and vaccination coverage for agglomeration areas and big cities is targeted to reach 70 percent this September (2021). We do not have a shortage of vaccines,” he said.

He then lauded the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian Police (Polri) for their assistance in COVID-19 handling, particularly in enforcing the 3M and 3T implementation, which is crucial to break the chain of virus transmission.

Pandjaitan said he is optimistic that the success of the pandemic handling would help boost economic recovery.

“Indonesia’s competitiveness, including in terms of investment, depends on our success in controlling the pandemic. The sooner we succeed in controlling the pandemic, the better the country’s investment competitiveness and attractiveness will be,” he added.

No reports Jakarta villages have exhausted vaccine stocks: official

Head of the Jakarta Health Service, Widyastuti, has said that there have been no reports of stocks of COVID-19 vaccines running out in villages in Jakarta.

“If there is a rumor about that, I need to check first, in which village. Because so far there is no report about empty stocks of COVID-19 vaccine,” Widyastuti remarked on Friday.

The Jakarta Health Service always maintains communication with the Health Ministry to fulfill vaccine stocks to the village level, she said.

“The public’s high interest in getting vaccinated makes the vaccine stock run quickly. This means that the speed of vaccine distribution is very important,” she added.

The speed of vaccine distribution must be accompanied by the speed of calculating the daily capacity and the number of vaccines available, in order to serve residents optimally, she said.

“There are several vaccination centers operating, but for some reason, they do not open. As a result, residents who will receive vaccine injections move to other vaccination centers whose capacity is not as large as the previous one, so the queues become overflowing,” she explained.

Earlier, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan had assured that the Jakarta government had matched the data on the number of vaccines available against that of vaccine recipients on the JAKI application so that they could help residents get vaccinated.

This step was taken to avoid complaints from residents who had registered through JAKI, but the designated vaccine center had run out of vaccine stocks, he explained.

“Regarding the JAKI registration for vaccination, there will be data synchronization between the number of available vaccines and the number of residents who register,” Baswedan added.

President Jokowi urges Yogyakarta governor to expedite vaccination

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called on Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X to speed up the COVID-19 vaccination rate in his region.

“There is no set target. (The president) only requests to speed up the vaccination rate, so we must increase it,” the Yogyakarta governor remarked after meeting President Jokowi at Gedhong Pracimasana, Kepatihan Complex, here on Friday.

The governor called to accelerate inoculation by pushing mass vaccination programs in Yogyakarta, covering at least 20 thousand people per day. Currently, they only administer vaccines to some 11 thousand residents per day.

“As long as it cannot be done like that (targeting 20 thousand people per day), it will not necessarily be accomplished by the end of this year, if it is only 11 thousand (per day),” he remarked.

Hamengku Buwono X targets an 80-percent vaccination rate in the region by October 2021. However, currently, the vaccination rate in Yogyakarta has only reached 66 percent.

“In October 2021, administration of the first dose was completed, and there will only be the second (dose). However, the important aspect is that after the first dose (of the vaccine), the community already has immunity,” Hamengku Buwono X remarked.

He revealed that vaccination in Yogyakarta was not constrained by stocks, but rather, realization at the district level.

“Provinces are just stockpiles. District and cities are doing it. The important aspect is that districts and cities are diligently (administering) vaccines,” he added.

Based on the Yogyakarta Regional Government’s data, the vaccination rate in Yogyakarta as per September 9, 2021, indicates that 66.42 percent of the total targeted 2,879,699 had received the first vaccination dose, while the second dose was only given to 29.71 percent.

In addition to pressing for expedited vaccinations, President Jokowi reminded the heads of districts and mayors that the opening of community activities in Yogyakarta should be conducted in stages, so that the number of COVID-19 cases do not spike again, the Yogyakarta governor noted.

“Do not open it up and then let (the cases) increase up again. Be careful because it is steep enough, so you will open it gradually and carefully. However, vaccinations must be conducted as much as possible despite only being the first dose,” the governor noted.

President Jokowi met with the Yogyakarta governor and the Yogyakarta Regional Leadership Coordination Forum at the Kepatihan Office after observing the mass vaccination at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC) and COVID-19 vaccinations for students at special schools in Bantul District.

According to Secretary of Yogyakarta, Kadarmanta Baskara Aji, after meeting with the Yogyakarta Forkopimda, President Jokowi was scheduled to hold Friday prayers at Gedung Agung and then visit the Muhammadiyah Muallimin Madrasah, Bantul District.
