Younger Brother of Former Municipal Council Member Shoots Teammate in Songkhla

Sadao: The younger brother of a former Samnak Kham municipal council member has been accused of shooting and seriously injuring a teammate in Songkhla Province. The incident, which took place at the victim's house, is suspected to have been driven by personal anger.

According to Thai News Agency, rescue workers found Mr. Thiraphat, aged 30, in a serious condition, with gunshot wounds in his abdomen and right leg. The incident occurred in Soi Thai-Chang Lon 16, within the Tambon Samnak Kham area. The assailant, identified as Mr. Somyot, aged 31, is a friend of the victim, and the two had a long-standing grudge.

The shooting took place while Mr. Thiraphat was playing games at a computer table inside his home. Mr. Somyot reportedly arrived at the front door, but Mr. Thiraphat refused to let him in. In response, Mr. Somyot allegedly fired through the glass door, hitting Mr. Thiraphat twice.

Despite his injuries, Mr. Thiraphat was able to provide a statement, identifying Mr. Somyot as the younger brother of a former municipal council member. He mentioned that they had unresolved personal issues, and Mr. Somyot had come to his house to discuss them, which Mr. Thiraphat was unwilling to do.

Initial reports indicate that Mr. Somyot has contacted the police expressing his intent to surrender. Authorities are currently waiting for his relatives to bring him in for further questioning to determine the exact motive behind the shooting.
