Young Man’s Unpaid Gas Fills Leads to Dramatic Six-District Police Chase

Nakhon si thammarat: A young man sparked a significant police chase across six districts after failing to pay for a gas fill-up and fleeing the scene. The pursuit lasted 2-3 hours before law enforcement cornered the individual, who cited fear of arrest due to driving without a license as the reason for his actions.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident involved a white 4-wheel truck with a closed container, registered in Bangkok. The vehicle was first reported at a gas station in Kaeo Saen Subdistrict, Na Bon District, where the driver filled the tank and left without payment. The gas station owner immediately alerted local police, prompting a coordinated response from police stations in Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat, Na Bon, Thung Song, Ron Phibun, Phra Phrom, and Phrom Khiri.

The pursuit spanned over 100 kilometers, beginning in Na Bon District and progressing through Thung Song, Ron Phibun, Phra Phrom, Mueang, and Phrom Khiri Districts. The high-speed chase ended on Phrom Khiri Road when officers disabled the vehicle by shooting the left tire. This action effectively prevented further escape and concluded the dramatic pursuit.

Upon inspection of the vehicle, authorities found no illegal items. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Mr. Phansa, appeared disoriented and possibly under the influence of drugs. He provided an unclear account of his journey, stating he traveled from Bangkok to Phra Phrom District to visit a friend. Mr. Phansa admitted regular marijuana use but denied other drug involvement. When questioned about the unpaid gas, he claimed memory loss. His fear of arrest for driving without a license was the reason he continued to evade police.

Mr. Phansa was taken to Nakhon Si Thammarat Police Station for further questioning and will undergo a urine test for drug detection. Authorities plan to charge him with several offenses, including reckless driving, endangering public safety, and evading arrest.
