Trailer Truck Brake Failure Causes Multi-Car Pileup on Mittraphap Road

Khao moklang dong: A trailer truck experienced brake failure while descending Khao Moklang Dong, resulting in a collision with ten cars and injuring three individuals, leading to significant traffic congestion on Mittraphap Road. Despite his injuries, the truck driver managed to provide a statement regarding the incident.

According to Thai News Agency, the accident involved a trailer truck carrying over ten containers, which collided with multiple vehicles on Mittraphap Road, heading towards Bangkok. The incident occurred between kilometers 37 and 38 in Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Police from Khlang Dong Police Station, along with rescue workers from various units, were dispatched to the scene to assist the injured.

At the crash site, the container truck, a white Hino brand registered in Bangkok, was found with severe front-end damage. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Mr. Witthaya, sustained an injury to his left leg and was found in the passenger seat. He reported that the fully-loaded container truck's brakes failed due to an air shortage while descending the hill, leading to a collision with another trailer truck loaded with wood, causing the wood to scatter across the road. The impact resulted in a chain reaction involving eight additional vehicles, including five pickup trucks and three sedans. Two other individuals suffered injuries, bringing the total number of injured to three, including the truck driver. Rescue workers transported the injured to Muak Lek Hospital.

One of the affected motorists, en route from Bangkok to Chaiyaphum, recounted hearing a loud bang and feeling a strong impact while using his phone in the car. Although uninjured, his vehicle sustained significant damage.

The accident disrupted traffic for several kilometers as it coincided with the final day of the long Asarnha Bucha and Khao Phansa holiday. Authorities closed the road for nearly two hours to clear the wreckage. To alleviate the congestion, Nakhon Ratchasima Highway Police added a special lane to expedite traffic flow.
