Yellow Line MRT Resumes Service at Noon Amid Safety Inspections

Bangkok: The Yellow Line MRT will open at noon today, while the Pink Line remains closed for further safety checks. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, announced the reopening of the Yellow Line following thorough inspections after an earthquake in Myanmar affected parts of Thailand. The Pink Line, however, will undergo additional inspections of power rails before resuming service. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suriya stated that the Yellow Line is set to reopen after a complete inspection of its tracks using a Maintenance Inspection Vehicle. The inspection was prompted by recent tremors felt in Bangkok due to the earthquake. If no further issues are identified, the Yellow Line will commence operations at 12:00 noon today. The Pink Line, meanwhile, remains closed for another day. Although initial inspections found no structural damage, additional checks on power distribution rails between Min Buri and Talat Min Buri stations are underway. The closure is to ensure the utmost safety before the line returns to normal service. In related developments, efforts to dismantle a crane at the Din Daeng checkpoint are in progress. Mr. Suriya noted that parts of the crane have been removed, and a derrick crane will be installed to expedite the process. The Expressway Authority of Thailand is assisting in these efforts, prioritizing public safety and minimizing traffic disruptions. Mr. Suriya also addressed concerns raised by social media images suggesting structural issues with the MRT Purple Line. He clarified that the images depicted the Pocket Track area, used for train turnarounds, and were not related to earthquake damage. Inspections confirmed the structural integrity of the MRT Purple Line, dispelling any false reports.
