Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping pushed forward five proposals to promote inclusive and beneficial economic globalization and the building of the Asia-Pacific community, while delivering a speech titled "Building an Open and Inclusive Asia-Pacific Economy" at the first session of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting.
According to Thai News Agency, Xi said APEC has led the Asia-Pacific region to rise to the forefront of global open development and made the region the most dynamic part of the global economy since its founding more than 30 years ago. The world is facing unprecedented changes at an accelerated pace, and the Asia-Pacific region faces increasingly uncertain and destabilizing development factors. Amid these increasingly severe headwinds, APEC members must work together even harder.
Xi called on APEC members to uphold APEC's original mission of promoting economic growth and improving people's quality of life, support open development with win-win opportunities for all, and urge efforts to promote inclusive and beneficial economic globalization and the building of the Asia-Pacific Community.
President Xi has pushed for five proposals: First, Xi Jinping called for joint efforts to safeguard the multilateral trading system and urged APEC members to uphold true multilateralism, strengthen the power and efficiency of the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its core, and improve international economic and trade rules to adapt to the changing times to better protect the legitimate interests of developing countries.
Second, Xi Jinping called for the creation of an open economic environment in the Asia-Pacific region, urging APEC members to promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, deepen fiscal and financial cooperation, and continuously promote regional economic integration. He also promoted consensus and common progress, thus strengthening the development of the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area.
Third, Xi called on APEC members to work together to maintain the smooth stability of industrial and supply chains. APEC members should walk hand in hand rather than apart, strengthen connections rather than sever them, expand common interests, and actively support the development of open supply chains, striving to achieve tangible results in physical, organizational, and people-to-people connectivity, thus further solidifying the foundation for open development in the Asia-Pacific region.
Fourth, Xi called for advancing the digital transformation and green or ecological transition of trade, urging efforts to make digital technologies a strong catalyst for cross-border trade, remove related barriers, and expand cooperation in green industries, clean energy, and green minerals.
Fifth, Xi called on the Asia-Pacific region to work together to promote universally beneficial and inclusive development, urging concerted efforts to uphold the people-centered development philosophy, address development imbalances, and foster a more inclusive, sustainable, and people-centered economic globalization in the region.
The Chinese leader said China is working with various parties to promote the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and is committed to achieving common development and prosperity with all countries. China has always pursued the basic state policy of opening up and earnestly promoted an open world economy.
China will take the opportunity of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's adoption of the draft 15th Five-Year Plan for economic and social development to carry out comprehensive reform and expand opening-up with higher standards, and create new opportunities for the Asia-Pacific region and the world through the latest achievements in Chinese-style modernization.
