Bangkok: Five sports associations have set their sights on securing 23 gold medals at the upcoming SEA Games. At the 4th SEA Games 2025 Press Meet, organized by the Sports Photographers Association of Thailand, it was revealed that a total of 26 associations are aiming for 111 gold medals.
According to Thai News Agency, the event was attended by the association president and representatives from the five sports associations: Taekwondo, Judo, Pencasilat, Karate, and Kickboxing. Mr. Thanadit Raktabutra, Secretary-General of the Taekwondo Association of Thailand, highlighted that this SEA Games will be the first home competition in 18 years. The Taekwondo Association is aiming to win seven gold medals, building on their strong performance at the 2023 SEA Games, where they secured five golds and five silvers. Mr. Raktabutra identified Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines as key competitors, with the Taekwondo events scheduled to take place at Fashion Island.
General Surachat Jitjang, president of the Karate Association of Thailand, expressed confidence in Thai karate athletes, who have undergone extensive preparations by competing in various events ahead of the SEA Games. The association has set a target of at least five gold medals. Although there were initial concerns regarding the athletes' readiness, their progress has bolstered the association's confidence. The karate competitions will be hosted at Central Hat Yai in Songkhla.
The Kickboxing Association has set a goal of five gold medals, while the Pentasilat and Judo Associations are each aiming for three gold medals. Collectively, these associations are striving for a total of 23 gold medals. In total, 26 associations will participate in the SEA Games, collectively aiming for 111 gold medals.
