Wisut Delays Selection of Second Deputy Speaker Amid Cabinet Reshuffle

Bangkok: Wisut Chainarun, MP for the Pheu Thai Party and chairman of the Government Coalition Party Coordination Committee, has announced a delay in the selection of the Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, opting to wait for the completion of the cabinet reshuffle. This decision comes after Mr. Paradorn Prisananantakul, MP for Ang Thong from the Bhumjaithai Party, resigned from the position, prompting the need for a new election during the July session opening.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wisut emphasized that discussions within the party and coalition parties have not yet taken place, as the cabinet reshuffle is a priority that must be addressed concurrently. He clarified that the position of Deputy Speaker is not tied to any quotas for the second-largest coalition party.

Mr. Wisut stated, "There is no rush to select the vacant second deputy speaker position because the speaker and first deputy speaker are still performing their duties. Therefore, we can wait another 1-2 months." He acknowledged the Bhumjaithai Party's concerns over a narrow majority following the resignation but stressed the importance of MPs attending every parliamentary session.

The government whip highlighted the necessity of MPs, especially those who are ministers, to fulfill their parliamentary duties by attending meetings. He also urged the public to hold MPs accountable, warning that constituents should encourage their representatives to prioritize parliamentary duties or reconsider their support in future elections.
