Wirote Calls for Fact-Checking Before Allegations of MP Purchase in Rayong Scandal

Bangkok: Mr. Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, a party-list MP and deputy leader of the Prachachon Party, has called for a thorough investigation into claims surrounding Mr. Krit Silpachai, a Rayong MP from the Prachachon Party. The controversy began when allegations emerged that Mr. Krit was approached with an offer of 25 million baht to act as a 'cobra' and vote in favor of the prime minister during a no-confidence debate. Mr. Wiroj emphasized the need to verify the authenticity of the chat messages before making any accusations.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wiroj stressed that the party has yet to discuss the matter formally and would need to consult with Mr. Krit to establish the facts. He acknowledged the existence of what appears to be authentic chat messages but insisted on examining their veracity before proceeding. Mr. Wiroj highlighted the importance of understanding the party affiliations of those involved to prevent baseless accusations against large political parties and nominees.

Mr. Wiroj questioned the necessity of the government seeking additional support when it already commands nearly 320 votes. He refrained from making allegations, choosing instead to investigate the motives behind the potential vote-buying-whether it is to generate political unrest or a genuine attempt to sway votes. He urged fairness and cautioned against drawing premature conclusions due to the issue's significant implications.

In addressing concerns that the alleged vote-buying scheme might aim to tarnish the Prachachon Party's reputation, Mr. Wiroj reiterated the importance of fact-checking. He stressed the need to scrutinize the sender's intentions behind the chat messages-whether they sought to incite a political movement or legitimately purchase votes. Mr. Wiroj called for time to conduct a thorough investigation before leveling any accusations.
