Wirot Criticizes Parliament, Calls It a ‘Theater’ Deceiving Citizens

Bangkok: Wirot Lakkhanaadisorn, a prominent MP and deputy leader of the Prachachon Party, delivered a scathing critique of the Thai parliament, likening it to a "Lakorn theater" that deceives the public. During a joint parliamentary meeting, Wirot expressed disappointment in his fellow parliamentarians, accusing them of lacking courage in the face of constitutional amendments.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting's agenda included urgent motions requesting the Constitutional Court to consider the duties and powers of parliament, proposed by Dr. Premsak Piura and Mr. Wisut Chainarun. Wirot highlighted the missed opportunities for constitutional reform following the 2014 coup and criticized MPs for their reluctance to amend the constitution through the Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA).

Wirot recalled the bravery demonstrated by MPs in the past and urged current parliamentarians to exhibit the same courage. He lamented the absence of political will during a previous attempt to amend Section 256, which aimed to open the Constituent Assembly. Despite initial progress, the motion to amend the constitution was ultimately overturned, leaving many disillusioned.

The MP further criticized the court's ambiguous rulings, suggesting they served as a deterrent to MPs. He praised Mr. Chatcha Thaiset for his refusal to engage with what he described as a "joke council" and condemned the ongoing debates about referendum processes as unnecessary distractions.

Wirot emphasized that legislative power must reside with elected MPs, not the court. He acknowledged Mr. Prisht Wacharasindhu's efforts to prioritize the constitutional amendment but expressed frustration over the prolonged delays. He concluded by questioning the efficacy of the parliamentary system, urging MPs to use their legislative power responsibly and not waste further time.
