Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn Expresses Disappointment Over Rejection of Draft NACC Act by Parliament

Bangkok: Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, Deputy Leader of the Prachachon Party and Chairman of the House of Representatives Military Affairs Committee, has expressed his profound disappointment following the rejection of a draft National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) Act by the House of Representatives. The draft, which sought to transfer military corruption and misconduct cases to a corruption court, was voted down by a majority of 415 votes.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wiroj criticized the Pheu Thai Party, accusing it of ingratitude towards the Red Shirts, who had supported them in past struggles. He claimed that the Pheu Thai Party, under the leadership of Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, had failed to demonstrate sincerity in reforming the country towards democracy. He lamented that the rejection of the draft NACC Act is indicative of the party's reluctance to challenge the entrenched military power.

The proposed law aimed to ensure that corruption cases involving the military would be tried in the same criminal courts as those involving civil servants and political officials. Mr. Wiroj argued that the military court system lacked independence and transparency, with many past cases raising public suspicion and criticism. He emphasized that the draft law was designed with meticulous care and consulted with lawmakers and officials from the Parliamentary Legal Office.

Mr. Wiroj voiced his disappointment in Pheu Thai's stance, arguing that their decision betrayed the Red Shirts' loyalty and sacrifices. He called out Dr. Channan Srikaew, the chairman of the committee from Pheu Thai, for failing to uphold the principles of justice and democracy. He asserted that the rejection of the draft is a step backward for the country and accused Pheu Thai of making deals to appease the military for personal benefits.

The Deputy Leader of the Prachachon Party reiterated that the rejection of the draft NACC Act reflects a fear of confronting military power and questioned Pheu Thai's commitment to justice and democracy. He urged the party to consider the impact of their decision on their supporters and the future of the country's governance.

In conclusion, Mr. Wiroj expressed his disappointment with the current political landscape, criticizing Pheu Thai for ignoring the sacrifices and struggles of the Red Shirts. He called for accountability from party leaders and urged them not to forget the support and expectations of their constituents.
