Sisaket: Wat Phrai Phatthana has been recognized as one of the top 10 model communities under the initiative 'Visit the Community, See the Way of Life,' launched by the Ministry of Culture. This initiative aims to highlight the unique identity and wisdom of local communities, transforming them into global tourist destinations, thereby creating jobs and boosting the local economy.
According to Thai News Agency, Wat Phrai Phatthana, located in Sisaket Province, is the fifth community to be promoted for community tourism and lifestyle in the fiscal year 2024. Situated near the Cambodian border, this community has fostered long-standing friendly relations with its neighbor. The permanent border crossing at Chong Sangam connects visitors to significant sites like Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. The community is predominantly ethnic Khmer, known for their distinctive local attire. Wat Phrai Phatthana serves as a spiritual hub, hosting religious activities for Thai, Cambodian, and international communities alike.
Visitors to Wat Phrai Phatthana can pay homage to the body of Luang Pu Suang, a revered monk known as the 'Angel on Earth.' It is considered auspicious to visit the community, beginning with offerings to Luang Pu Suang. Tourists can enjoy the local charm by taking a complimentary tram ride to explore the Yonlawi community market, where cultural products such as silk with the Royal Golden Peacock brand, natural honey, herbal medicine, and local cuisine are available. Traditional dishes include banana stem curry, jackfruit curry, and desserts like dang rice soup and butterfly pea herbal tea.
Additional attractions include the scenic viewpoint at Pha Phaya Kupree and natural sites such as Huai Samran, Huai Samrong Waterfall, and Wat Pa Tham Phueng Daowadung.
Currently, there are 40 model communities nationwide under the 'Visiting the Community, Seeing the Way of Life' initiative.
