Bangkok: The legal team representing Wat Na Pa Pong met with investigators at the Crime Suppression Division, as a German woman prepares to meet with police on October 2.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nanthan Inthanon, a lawyer for Wat Na Pa Pong in Pathum Thani Province, along with his team, held a press conference in response to allegations made by Ms. Thongmai Kwanmuen, a lawyer for a German layperson. The complaint accuses Phra Khruekrit of embezzling temple funds and laundering them through the Buddhavacana Foundation in Germany.
In a recent development, Mr. Nanthan Inthanon and his legal team visited the Crime Suppression Division to present documents related to the temple's financial connections and donations. These were submitted to investigators to address the raised issues. The investigative team spent less than an hour reviewing the situation before departing without giving any media statements.
The news team reached out to Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat Pankaew, Deputy Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, who confirmed that investigations into Wat Na Pa Pong's financial activities, particularly nationwide donations, are ongoing. Should any irregularities be discovered, appropriate actions will follow.
A significant point of investigation is the transfer of 12.2 million baht from the temple's account to the Buddhavacana Foundation account in Germany. Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat indicated that if the temple's donations breach any laws, the funds transferred to Germany would also be implicated. He requested patience as investigators continue their work.
Regarding the German woman involved, Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat confirmed that she is set to meet with investigators to provide evidence on October 2, 2025, though a specific time has not been disclosed.
