Buriram: Officials from several agencies rushed to help a 3-month-old baby who was found to have drugs in his system from breastfeeding. The latest order is to stop breastfeeding until he is cured of his drug addiction. The father was sent to rehab and is preparing to find a job to earn money to support his wife and child.
According to Thai News Agency, progress in the case of Nang Rong District Administration officials, Buriram Province, together with Chum Saeng Subdistrict patrol police, went to investigate a case where villagers complained that a couple were gathering to take methamphetamine, smoke marijuana, and smoke e-cigarettes inside a house in Chum Saeng Subdistrict, Nang Rong District, even though the wife had just given birth only 3 months ago and was still breastfeeding, fearing that it would affect the child's health.
Urine tests of both the husband and wife found drugs in their systems, and both admitted to taking methamphetamine, smoking marijuana, and smoking e-cigarettes. In the house, paraphernalia used to take drugs and some marijuana were found. The officers took the husband and wife and their 3-month-old child for examination at Nang Rong Hospital, where it was discovered that the baby had drugs in his system because the mother had taken drugs, smoked e-cigarettes, and was breastfeeding.
The latest is that officials from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security in Buriram Province, along with the Nang Rong District Chief, kamnans, and village headmen, went to the area to urgently find ways to help the baby. Initially, officials strictly forbade the mother from breastfeeding her baby until she stopped using drugs or quit smoking e-cigarettes. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has purchased milk and baby supplies to take care of the baby first, and officials will come to monitor the mother's urine regularly. As for the father of the child who tested positive for drugs, he will be sent for drug addiction treatment and will be given a job to earn an income to support his family and will not be involved with drugs again.
