Unstable Weather and Summer Storms Forecasted for Upper Thailand

Bangkok: Upper Thailand is bracing for unstable weather, including thunderstorms and a significant drop in temperature, as warned by the Meteorological Department. The forecast indicates that the northeastern region will experience a temperature decline of 3-5 degrees Celsius, while the North, Central, including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the East will see a reduction of 1-2 degrees Celsius.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has predicted that a high-pressure area or relatively strong cold air mass from China has spread to cover the upper northeastern region and is expected to extend to the northern, central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the eastern region. This will result in summer storms characterized by thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind, and hail in certain areas, accompanied by lightning. Following these conditions, a cooler climate and a temperature reduction of 3-5 degrees Celsius with strong winds are anticipated in the northeastern region. The northern, central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the eastern region will observe a temperature drop of 1-2 degrees Celsius. Residents are advised to exercise caution during summer storms and avoid open areas, large trees, weak buildings, and billboards. Farmers are urged to secure their fruit trees and prepare for potential damage to crops and livestock, while also safeguarding their health amid the changing weather.

The easterly and southeasterly winds impacting the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea will continue to bring thunderstorms to some southern areas. In the lower Gulf of Thailand, waves are expected to reach 1-2 meters, and areas with thunderstorms will experience waves exceeding 2 meters. Sailors are advised to avoid areas with thunderstorms.

Dust and smog accumulation in the upper part of Thailand remains at a good to moderate level due to the rain and strong winds, although the northern region continues to experience moderate to high levels due to weak winds.

The regional weather forecast indicates that Bangkok and its surrounding areas will experience thunderstorms in 30% of the area with strong winds, followed by a temperature drop of 1-2 degrees Celsius. The northern region will see thunderstorms in 10 percent of the area, with strong winds and hail mainly in Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phrae, Kamphaeng Phet, Sukhothai, and Tak. The northeastern region will experience a temperature decrease of 1-3 degrees Celsius with strong winds and thunderstorms in some areas, predominantly in the lower part of the region.

In the central region, thunderstorms are expected in 30 percent of the area with strong winds, particularly in provinces like Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, and Kanchanaburi. The eastern region will see thunderstorms in 40 percent of the area with strong winds in Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. The southern region, both east and west coasts, will also experience thunderstorms in certain areas, with varying wind speeds and wave heights.
