Kuala lumpur: Trump will definitely be there to witness the Thailand-Cambodia summit in Malaysia. Reporters noted that the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is of interest due to the attendance of US President Donald Trump, who will travel to Kuala Lumpur on October 26th. In addition to attending the ASEAN Summit 2025, the US President is scheduled to meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and witness the signing of the Joint Declaration between Thailand and Cambodia on the Outcomes of Their Meetings between Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister General Hun Sen. The agreement will take place on October 26th at 4:30 PM Malaysian time, one hour ahead of Thailand. There will be no four-party meeting prior to the signing.
According to Thai News Agency, Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow revealed that before the signing of the declaration document leading to peace between Thailand and Cambodia, Thailand wants to see Cambodia's sincerity and practical actions, particularly the bilateral military-level talks on the withdrawal of heavy weapons and the clearance of mines, which will take place on October 25th, before the signing by the two leaders on October 26th, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur.
Sihasak emphasized that the signing is not a peace agreement, but rather a roadmap for resolving issues and leading to peace. He stated that before signing, Thailand wants to witness Cambodia's practical actions, such as the withdrawal of heavy weapons and demining efforts, to ensure clear implementation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the military have been actively working to provide information to prevent misunderstandings about the agreement.
Mr. Sihasak confirmed that following the signing, a practical approach is needed to demonstrate progress and build trust between both nations. He noted that Thailand and Cambodia must continue bilateral discussions and live together as neighbors. An ASEAN observer team will be required to monitor the implementation of the declarations made by both countries.
"If the leaders have signed it, it shows that they have expressed their political will. We must move forward with implementation, not just sign a document. When we spoke with the US and they began coordinating, we stated that we wanted real peace in order to achieve implementation," said Mr. Sihasak.
