Thammasat University Triumphs Over Chulalongkorn University in Traditional Football Championship

Bangkok: Thammasat University regained the traditional football trophy for the first time in nine years after defeating Chulalongkorn University 2-1 in a warm atmosphere. The 75th Thammasat-Chulalongkorn Traditional Football Tournament marked its return under the theme 'Dawn of Memory, Memories on a New Day' after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 situation. This year, Thammasat University hosted the event at the Supachalasai National Stadium, with Channel 9 MCOT HD, number 30, broadcasting the match live. According to Thai News Agency, Thammasat University had star players such as Siwakorn Tiatrakul, who served as team captain, and Kannarin Thawornsak. The team was led by head coach "Coach Wang" Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul. Chulalongkorn University, on the other hand, had "Leesaw" Teeratep Winothai as team captain, with Kasitinat Sripirom playing a leading role. Songyot Klinsrisuk was the coach for Chulalongkorn University. During the match, Thammasat played better in the first half, taking the lead in the 22nd minute with a close-range shot by 'Captain Fei' Sivakorn Teatrakul, making it 1-0. Eight minutes later, Thammasat extended their lead with a second goal when Atsawut Changthong's cross from the right found Kannarin Thawornsak, who volleyed a shot into the net, concluding the first half at 2-0. In the second half, Chulalongkorn University launched a series of attacks and had multiple chances to score, while Thammasat focused on counterattacks. Chulalongkorn managed to score in the 90+4 minute when Chalermpong Kerdkaew crossed to Athit Butjinda, who headed the ball into the net. However, they fell short, and Thammasat secured a 2-1 victory, claiming the championship for the first time in nine years. With this win, Thammasat University's record stands at 25 wins, while Chulalongkorn University has 18 wins, and 32 matches have ended in ties. The trophy, bestowed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, was presented to the winning team by Mr. Plakorn Suwannarat, Privy Councilor and represent ative of His Majesty.
