Bangkok: The Department of Corrections revealed that after quarantine, Thaksin may be appointed as a language teacher in prison. The Deputy Director-General of the Department of Corrections revealed that Thaksin Shinawatra eats two boiled eggs and coffee every morning without any problems after completing his five-day quarantine. He is preparing to classify inmates based on their abilities, potentially making them language teachers. His lawyer is scheduled to meet with him on September 15.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Col. Chain Kanchanapat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Corrections and spokesman for the Department, disclosed details regarding the detention of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, following the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions' one-year sentence. He stated that the first five days will be spent in quarantine. After that, the prisoners will be classified by a classification committee based on individual abilities. For example, a prisoner skilled in nursing will be placed in the infirmary to assist with dispensing medication, while a prisoner skilled in engineering will be assigned to the maintenance department. In the case of Thaksin, who has language skills, he may be appointed as a language teacher. This is because activities must be created to equip all inmates with knowledge and develop their character, making use of all inmates to benefit the overall prison.
Over the past two nights while in prison, Thaksin was able to eat. "In the morning, I ate two boiled eggs and coffee," he said, and slept normally. He didn't make any special requests and had no problems. He believes that his intention to return to Thailand to serve his sentence was to prepare him mentally and he was in good condition. During his five days in quarantine, the Department of Corrections placed Thaksin in a room with elderly people, as he was already old and could not be placed with the young people convicted of murder.
No one, including his lawyer, is currently permitted to visit. After the five days, the 10 individuals Mr. Thaksin has identified will be allowed to visit, including his wife, children, and family members, in accordance with regulations. He also confirmed that the Department of Corrections will comply with all regulations.
Meanwhile, Mr. Winyat Chatmontri, Thaksin's lawyer, revealed that he has not yet visited Thaksin, as he is still in quarantine for five days. He has not spoken with him, but has only asked through officials how he is doing, which he says is fine. He will travel to meet with him on Monday, September 15th.
When asked if he was aware that the prison would appoint Mr. Thaksin as an assistant officer, Mr. Winyat said he was not aware and would have to ask the prison about this matter.
