Chiang Rai: 'Thaksin' arrived in Chiang Rai Province to give a campaign speech in support of 'Salakcharit', a candidate for Chiang Rai Provincial Administrative Organization president in the name of the Pheu Thai Party. Many red shirts were waiting to welcome him.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister, arrived at Mae Fah Luang Airport, Tambon Ban Du, Amphoe Mueang Chiang Rai, by plane to support Mrs. Salakcharit Tiyapairat, candidate for the Chiang Rai Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) president under the Pheu Thai Party. The election is set for February 1st, with Mrs. Atitathorn Wanchaithanawong, a former Chiang Rai PAO president running as an independent, as the main competitor alongside a third candidate, Ms. Jiraporn Muenchaiwong.
Upon arrival at Mae Fah Luang Airport, Mr. Thaksin headed to the field of Plong Wittayakhom School, Tambon Plong, Amphoe Thoeng, a key support area for Mrs. Atitathorn. There, he was greeted by numerous supporters, including members of the Red Shirts, representing the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD). Mr. Thaksin and several speakers proceeded by car to various campaign stages.
Prominent Pheu Thai Party leaders, including Mr. Anusorn Aimsa-ard, Ms. Khattiya Sawatdiphon, and Mr. Nattawut Saikua, also participated in the rally at Tambon Plong, Amphoe Thoeng. The campaign continued at Ban Huai So Wittayakhom School, Amphoe Chiang Khong, and concluded at Mae Chan Wittayakhom School, Amphoe Mae Chan. Mr. Thaksin returned to Bangkok in the early evening following the day's events.
