Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, Thailand's Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has reaffirmed his Thailand is coordinating constantly with the United States and South Korea to combat online scams and call center gangs, the Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Thursday, affirming commitment to fighting transnational crime.
According to Thai News Agency, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nikorndej Balangkura stated that US measures announced on Oct. 14 to combat online crime in Southeast Asia align with Thailand's existing efforts. He emphasized that online fraud is a global issue linked to severe transnational crimes, including human trafficking, forced labor, and money laundering.
Nikorndej mentioned that Thailand has exchanged sensitive information with US security agencies since early this year. He also highlighted that Thailand has been proactive in raising global awareness and has already assisted numerous non-Thai victims of scam operations.
While acknowledging South Korea's deployment of officials to assist its citizens, Nikorndej noted that cooperation has involved many nations and that future discussions with Seoul may seek additional solutions. He confirmed Thailand will continue efforts through bilateral and regional forums, including pushing the issue onto the ASEAN agenda.
