Thailand Reaffirms Commitment to International Rules at OSCE Finland Meeting

Helsinki: The Director-General of the Department of European Affairs emphasized Thailand's adherence to international rules at the OSCE meeting in Finland. The statement also addressed Cambodia's recent attacks and Thailand's readiness to host a meeting against transnational crime.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Krongkhanit Rakcharoen, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, led a Thai delegation to the Helsinki+50 meeting within the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) framework in Helsinki, Finland. During the discussions, the Director-General highlighted the OSCE's role in promoting preventative diplomacy and constructive dialogue, focusing on countering online fraud, cybersecurity, human trafficking, border management, and environmental security, as well as cooperation under the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

The Director-General reiterated Thailand's stance on the Thai-Cambodian border situation, emphasizing adherence to the United Nations Charter, international humanitarian principles, and the Helsinki Final Act. The statement condemned Cambodia's unprovoked attacks that caused casualties and damage, necessitating a proportionate Thai military response in self-defense under international law.

Thailand also affirmed its commitments under the ceasefire agreement and expressed readiness to engage in bilateral discussions to resolve the border issues further. Additionally, Thailand showed its willingness to co-host the 2026 OSCE Asian Conference with Finland, focusing on combating transnational crime and online fraud. The event will build on previous successful workshops and meetings co-organized by Thailand and the OSCE.
