Sisaket: Prasert Chantarawongthong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, visited Sisaket Province to address the aftermath of the recent unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border. Prasert aimed to provide support and financial assistance to the families of the deceased and emphasized the government's commitment to restoring normalcy as swiftly as possible.
According to Thai News Agency, Prasert presented financial aid from the Disaster Relief Fund of the Office of the Prime Minister to the relatives of nine individuals who lost their lives in the border conflict. He further led efforts to distribute essential items, gathered through nationwide donations via Thailand Post, to evacuees in Kantharalak District. During his visit, Prasert engaged with relevant agencies to devise a systematic approach for the care and relief of those affected.
Prasert instructed the Sisaket Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office to gather comprehensive documentation for the remaining victims urgently. He directed the Sisaket Provincial Governor to accelerate financial disbursements and tasked related agencies with investigating the remaining 24 victims. Additionally, Prasert emphasized the need for a swift assessment of infrastructure to facilitate further aid requests.
At the Ban Phue gas station in Kantharalak District, Prasert laid flowers in memory of the victims of the violence, which resulted in multiple casualties. He also acknowledged the efforts of post office staff in Kantharalak District, recognizing their role in maintaining communication and providing assistance during the crisis.
Prasert, representing the government and Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra, expressed support for all personnel involved in relief efforts. He highlighted the government's focus on the rehabilitation of affected areas and the well-being of citizens, outlining plans to restore infrastructure and implement measures to support affected individuals' livelihoods.
Immediate government priorities include repairing damaged infrastructure and installing internet access to ensure information flow and government service accessibility. Measures are also in place to support new business ventures and agricultural activities for those who have lost income. Thailand Post has initiated a project to aid victims of the Thailand-Cambodia disaster, allowing free assistance delivery until August 2025. This initiative aims to bolster morale and provide essential support to those impacted by the crisis.
