Thai Prime Minister Paethongtarn Prepares to Host Lao PDR Counterpart for Diplomatic Anniversary

Bangkok: Prime Minister Paethongtarn is ready to welcome the Prime Minister of the Lao PDR on an official visit to Thailand to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Thai-Laos diplomatic relations.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Houngsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that Mr. Sonxay Siphandone, the Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, is scheduled to visit Thailand on an official visit as a guest of the government on Thursday, 20 February 2025. This visit comes at the invitation of Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, and is a reciprocal visit following her trip to the Lao People's Democratic Republic on 8 October 2024.

The itinerary for the Lao PDR Prime Minister includes a series of significant events at Government House. These events encompass an official welcome ceremony, comprehensive discussions with the Thai Prime Minister, the signing and exchange of agreements, and the unveiling of a logo commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Thailand and the Lao PDR. Additionally, a joint press conference will be held, followed by a luncheon hosted by the Thai Prime Minister in honor of the visiting Prime Minister and his wife.

Mr. Chirayu highlighted that the year 2025 marks a significant milestone as Thailand and the Lao PDR celebrate the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship. The bilateral discussions between the two leaders aim to enhance their ties across various dimensions, including economic collaboration, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges, with a strong focus on addressing shared challenges.
