Thai Government Emphasizes International Cooperation Amid Thai-Cambodian Border Tensions

Helsinki: The Thai government is taking decisive steps in the global arena, actively communicating factual information about the ongoing Thai-Cambodian border situation. They have affirmed their commitment to peaceful means and adherence to international law while protecting their citizens from Cambodian attacks, which they assert is a legitimate right under international law. Additionally, they are seeking to expand regional security cooperation in a concrete manner.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office and the CCSA, disclosed that Thailand has been advancing its international role, focusing on clear communication regarding the border tensions with Cambodia. Recently, from July 31 to August 1, 2025, Thailand participated in the Helsinki+50 meeting under the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) framework in Helsinki, Finland. The Thai delegation, led by Ms. Krongkhanit Rakcharoen, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, reiterated Thailand's stance on the issue.

The head of the Thai delegation emphasized Thailand's adherence to the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian principles, while condemning Cambodia's unprovoked armed attack. The Thai military, they stated, is compelled to take proportionate retaliatory measures in self-defense, in line with international law. Thailand remains committed to the ceasefire agreement and is open to dialogue to address the conflict.

Furthermore, Thailand is leveraging this opportunity to enhance regional security cooperation. As the only ASEAN member in the OSCE framework, Thailand aims to bridge ASEAN and OSCE through collaborative activities on mutual interests, such as cybersecurity, human trafficking, and environmental security. Discussions with European representatives, including officials from Finland, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, furthered these aims.

Mr. Chirayu mentioned that Thailand also announced its readiness to co-host the 2026 OSCE Asian Conference with Finland, focusing on combatting transnational crime and online fraud. This builds on previous workshops and meetings aimed at tackling online scams. Thailand's contribution to the Helsinki+50 Fund underscores its commitment to supporting OSCE's objectives and enhancing its role in regional security.

"The Thai government will not yield to distortions or unfounded accusations. We will steadfastly present accurate information on the global stage, uphold international principles, and actively demonstrate that Thailand is judiciously protecting its people and open to peaceful resolutions," stated Mr. Jirayu.
