Tha Song Yang: The Thai-Myanmar border remains tense as clashes between Karen soldiers and the Myanmar military approach a critical point. Karen soldiers employed drones to drop bombs on a Myanmar military base near Tha Song Yang District, Tak Province, just 800 meters from the border. Schools on the Thai side, close to the conflict zone, ceased operations for a day, while over 400 people from Myanmar sought refuge in Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, the fighting between the KNLA Karen soldiers, led by Major General Bo Jor Hae, and Burmese soldiers from the 31st Rapid Response Battalion occurred near the Pulutu base, close to Hill 1248 in Karen State. This location is opposite Ta-la-oka village in Mae Usu Subdistrict, Tha Song Yang District, Tak Province, approximately 800 meters from the Thai border.
Throughout the night, both sides engaged in heavy gunfire, utilizing personal weapons and machine guns. Explosions lit up the Myanmar military base, with flames visible from the Thai side. The exchange of fire subsided close to midnight, and the extent of casualties on both sides remains unknown. The situation continues to be tense.
In response to the conflict, Nong Bua School in Nong Bua Village, located near the Moei River and the clash area, announced a one-day closure for its 1,296 students and 74 staff members. Male teachers remained on duty to safeguard government property and monitor developments. Students have been advised to avoid areas near the border for their safety.
The Thai-Myanmar Border Command Center in Tak Province reported that 463 Myanmar individuals fled the conflict and sought refuge in Nong Bua Village. The Rajamanu Task Force, along with the 35th Ranger Regiment, Tha Song Yang District Administration, and other relevant parties, are providing assistance to the refugees in line with international standards. Troops are also deployed to patrol the border and maintain Thai sovereignty around the clock.
