Pathumwan: Students from two technical institutes clashed in a shopping mall in the Pathumwan area last night, causing panic among mall-goers.
According to Thai News Agency, officers have apprehended four students, two from each side, following the incident. The altercation left five people injured, with two sustaining serious stab wounds and currently receiving treatment in the ICU at Police General Hospital. The remaining three suffered minor injuries.
Police reports from Pathumwan Police Station confirmed the number of injured individuals. Fortunately, no bystanders were harmed. The officers managed to control the situation by detaining four students who admitted they encountered each other while walking in the mall, leading to the argument and subsequent fight. Investigators found no weapons on the students and charged them under Section 391 of the Criminal Code, a minor offense, before releasing them after imposing fines.
The police commander has instructed further investigations to identify other involved students, particularly the individual responsible for the stabbing. The investigation aims to gather evidence for prosecution under the law. It is suspected that each side involved in the fight had at least 10 participants.
There have been no formal complaints from the shopping mall or its retailers regarding the incident. Rumors of a shooting during the altercation were debunked by investigators. Enhanced security measures are being coordinated between the police and mall security to prevent such incidents in the future. The police plan to collaborate with mall management to implement stricter entry checks for weapons and increase patrols in the area.
The shopping mall management has not announced any intention to file charges against the students but is working with Pathumwan Police Station to ensure better preventive measures are in place.
