Songkhla: Songkhla Province is set to present specially designed 'Samila' batik clothing to the Prime Minister and Cabinet members during the upcoming mobile Cabinet meeting on 18 February 2025. Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that the attire, inspired by the iconic golden mermaid statue at Samila Beach, reflects the region's cultural and natural heritage.
According to Thai News Agency, the Samila batik shirts incorporate vibrant colors and patterns derived from the golden mermaid statue and the sea, symbolizing Songkhla's famous tourist attraction. The unique production process involves applying three layers of sea salt, enhancing the fabric's brightness and ensuring long-lasting colors. The design aims to evoke the serene atmosphere of Samila Beach, with its picturesque sea views and the soothing sound of waves.
The Minathap Group, based in Chana District, Songkhla Province, is the creative force behind this clothing line. The group has been recognized in the national batik competition, receiving awards from Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya for three consecutive years. This marks the first production of Samila batik fabric, celebrating Songkhla's honor of hosting the year's first off-site cabinet meeting.
Furthermore, Samila Beach was recognized in 2024 as having the best seawater quality in Thailand, adding to the significance of this initiative. The project showcases local pride and the government's acknowledgment of Songkhla's natural and cultural assets.
