Songkhla Prepares for Mobile Cabinet Meeting to Push Six Key Projects

Songkhla: MP Saksith Khaothong has announced that Songkhla is gearing up to welcome the traveling cabinet, aiming to advance six crucial projects. The mobile cabinet meeting, slated for February 16-18, will see Prime Minister and cabinet members visiting Songkhla on February 18. As the MP for Songkhla Province, Saksith expressed his enthusiasm and readiness to host the cabinet, viewing this meeting as a significant chance to drive tangible development in the southern region.

According to Thai News Agency, Saksith emphasized the urgency of completing ongoing projects in Songkhla. The Songkhla Buddha Monthon Project, initiated in 2012, remains incomplete. The sand replenishment project for Samila Beach and Chalatat Beach, with a budget of 269 million baht, has only seen 10% progress. The transportation network expansion connecting Songkhla to key economic zones, covering a distance of 46 kilometers, lacks construction funding despite prior studies.

Further, the development of Songkhla's deep-sea port, crucial for integrating with the global economy, requires clearer operational plans and budget support. The Hat Yai Bypass Construction Project, featuring four traffic lanes, has seen minimal advancement. Upgrading Hat Yai International Airport to better accommodate tourists and investors involves multiple improvements, from constructing a new parallel taxiway to enhancing passenger terminals and public utilities.

In addition, infrastructure development in Songkhla and the southern region, such as transportation, water supply, electricity systems, and the development of Phetkasem Road and a parallel motorway, are deemed essential for economic growth. There is also a proposal to expedite the dual-track railway system to boost transportation efficiency, spread prosperity, and alleviate traffic issues. It is hoped that the mobile cabinet meeting will lead to decisive actions for the successful development of Songkhla Province and the southern region.
