Khon Kaen: A sergeant major has been transferred to a military camp in Nakhon Ratchasima Province after allegedly assaulting his mother-in-law during a dispute over the custody of his daughter. The altercation, witnessed by the sergeant's 2-year-old daughter, resulted in the mother-in-law suffering a head injury.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on January 31st when the sergeant, identified as 31-year-old Kan, visited his mother-in-law's residence to collect his daughter's belongings. The mother-in-law, Ms. Rung Arun, aged 52, forbade him from taking her granddaughter to live with him at the military camp, citing her role in the child's upbringing since birth. The disagreement escalated, leading Kan to physically assault his mother-in-law, causing her head to bleed. He subsequently took his daughter to the camp.
Ms. Rung Arun recounted that the sergeant usually resided with his wife and her at the family home in Khon Kaen, while she assisted in caring for the child. On the day of the incident, Kan's wife was working in another province, prompting him to temporarily stay at the camp. Ms. Rung Arun expressed confusion over Kan's aggressive behavior, noting that he appeared to be in a bad mood upon arrival. After the incident, she filed a complaint at the Ban Ped Police Station.
The sergeant's employer took swift action upon receiving a video clip of the incident, submitted by Kan's wife. As a result, Kan was ordered to be transferred out of Khon Kaen to a military camp in Nakhon Ratchasima. The granddaughter has since been returned to the family. Ms. Rung Arun stated she does not hold any resentment towards Kan and is satisfied with the employer's response to the situation.
